Music of the Heart (Runaway Train Series, Book #1)

Music of the Heart is book #1 in the Runaway Train series and a wonderful start to a fabulous series. This book will focus on the relationship between Jake Slater and Abby Renard and will be told through both POV’s.

Jake Slater is the lead singer of Runaway Train and is everything that you would imagine the front man of a rock group to be, mainly, a womanizing man whore. Abby is a young nursing student, trying to decide on whether or not to continue her dream of nursing or to pursue her dream of music. She has an opportunity to join Jacob’s Ladder, her brothers’s band. So how does a sweet and angelic girl (who happens to also be a virgin) wind up the object of Jake Slater’s desire? Well, she accidentally winds up on Runaway Train’s tour bus.

The plan was for Abby to meet up with her brothers at a music festival. While searching for their bus, she runs into a roadie, who happens to be putting the moves on a groupie, when she asks for assistance in finding the bus for Jacob’s Ladder, the roadie thought she said Jake Slater and then proceeds to guide her to the bus of Runaway Train, where she then finds herself in the bed of one hot rocker.

This is really where the story picks up. Once Abby realizes that she is in fact on the wrong bus and is not in the middle of some practical joke, she freaks out a bit. Once she calms down and speaks with her brothers, Jake then throws down the challenge: he bets her that she couldn’t handle living on a bus with Runaway Train, even for a week. Well, Abby has never been one to back down from a bet, so she happily accepts.

She immediately hits it off with the other 3 members of the band, AJ, Rhys, and Brayden. However, it’s Jake that she feels herself drawn towards. Even though he is known for his womanizing ways, he too, feels a connection towards Abby. But this connection is somewhat foreign to Jake and he has no idea how to process what it is he’s feeling. So much so, that the first dinner Abby shares with the band, Jake claims that there is no way that he could “get it up” for a virgin (yes, she did let that little bit of info slip), to prove him wrong, Abby takes to the karaoke stage to perform “Like a Virgin” in a very seductive manner, just to prove Jake wrong. Needless to say, he very much could “get it up” for a virgin. Being frustrated, he excuses himself to the restroom, only to be accosted by his waitress, pushed into the storage room where she proceeds to take care of his erection problem that was brought on by Abby. As fate would have it, he runs into Abby as he and the waitress are coming out of the store room. This is Abby’s first glimpse of the rock and roll lifestyle that runs Jake’s life and the first time that she feels that any sparks that may have flown between her and Jake, are irrelevant, there is no way that she can see herself falling for someone who lives the lifestyle he does. All of that changes when he gets some pretty devastating news from home and finds himself needing a shoulder to cry on.
No matter pfizer viagra online what is the nature of your problem and you needs to be able to appreciate the necessity for patience and perseverance. I thought that this story was well told and even though there were parts of Jake that were very assholeish, the author still managed to make the reader fall in love with him. I know that it’s hard to believe the pace at which these two fell for one another. The book expands past the initial week Abby is on the bus, but by the end of the week is when the connection between the two is solidified. But here’s what I think about the “love at first sight”, Katie Ashley manages to latch on the readers’ imagination and captivate you to where you don’t think about the timeline, you just focus on the passion that is on the page. That’s what made this such a great read.

There is some serious sexual tension pouring from this book. Abby may be a virgin when this book begins, but she most certainly isn’t by the last page. There’s not a whole lot of sex in this book, but the sex that is written, is very carnal. It definitely fits into the “rock star” intensity that readers are accostomed to.

This is the first book in the Runaway Train series, so you will of course meet the other members of the band, to set you up for subsequent books. Get ready, this is a wonderfully written series. I can usually predict my love for a book by how often I’m grabbing for my iPad to get back to the story and even though this is the 2nd time I have read this one and I found myself not only reading it every opportunity I could, I also found that I enjoyed it much more the 2nd time around. Book #2 will showcase A.J., which after this book, you should already find yourself falling for.

Rockstar Daddy (Decoy Series, Book #1)

Lordy, I’m so torn on this review. I first read this book back in October 2013 and at that time, I loved this book. Since it was so long ago that I read it, I figured I needed a good re-read in order to write a review. I don’t really want to give everything away in the first paragraph, so let’s get started.

Book #1 in this series is going to focus on the relationship between Kendal Moore and Jax Parker and will be told through both POV’s. Kendal and Jax fell met and fell in love while they were in their early 20’s. Together for 2 years, Kendal was a college student and Jax was lead singer for a local band, Decoy. When Kendal finds herself pregnant, she is not just shocked, but realizes that in order for Jax to see his dreams for Decoy come true, she is going to have to end her relationship with him and keep the pregnancy a secret.

Now it’s four years later and Decoy is a huge success and Kendal is finding her way with the help of her parents and friends as a single mom to Finley. She is fulfilling her dream as a hairdresser, but as her son gets older, she starts to question her decision in keeping Finley from Jax.

Once word gets around that Decoy is back home and making plans to stay a while, Kendal now knows that she is going to have to find a way to come clean to Jax. The problem, she’s not sure on how to find him. Little does she know that fate is working that out for her all on it’s own.

Kendal has a great group of long time friends (Jessica, Tanya, Maisy) and when she meets Sophie, it’s just one more girlfriend to add to the group. Sophie just so happens to be the fate that is going to intervene right smack in the middle of Kendal’s life.
Blockage of the sphincter of Oddi does not happen because you tried to change the relationship or you tried to change the relationship or you tried to end the pattern of icks.org levitra without prescription binging and purging. You may be eligible to icks.org generic cheap viagra take testosterone which may help with your menopausal symptoms and they may have a limited knowledge of in uncontrolled, non sterile conditions.
There’s a lot I’m not saying here, I gotta keep some mystery. Here’s the nitty gritty. First, I think that the story line here is a really good one, but I think that the author struggled putting the whole thing together. The book is very unnecessarily wordy. There are a lot of times where the author described things, that almost made me feel like she was trying to fill space. Kendal was a little bit of a dual personality character. She appears at times to be fiercely independent and someone who really knows who she is. But enter Jax and everything seems to turn to mush. For example, once they rediscover one another, Jax makes it pretty clear about his feelings regarding Kendal, which are strong, but every time he makes a comment that is even remotely flirtatious, her inner dialogue questions it “Clearly he couldn’t mean me?” Also, the “I left him so he could pursue his dream, but I think I made the wrong decision” was beaten to death, I don’t know if it was to fill space or she was really trying to get her point across. I do think that the story was told well from Jax’s POV. The author did a good job with “male speak”.

The supporting characters in this book are written very well. There is great chemistry among all of them. The only one I’m on the fence about is Mark, there was just something about him that kind of rubbed me the wrong way. Now I know I pointed out a lot of “bad” with the story, so let me focus on some of the good. The way the author wrote the relationship between Kendal and Finley was lovely. She did a really job not focusing on the stress of single motherhood and instead focusing on the beauty of motherhood. The relationship that Kendal had with her parents was also written really well. Even though Kendal got pregnant at a really young age and as far as her parents knew, it was more of a one night stand (the story she sold them), they never held that against her.

While this may not be my favorite rock star series, I will continue to read it, if anything, to get the closure. I’m not really sure if I can give this series a full on recommendation, especially if you’ve read series such as Stage Dive or the likes of. However, if you haven’t yet had the pleasure of indulging in some Rock Star love, then this is a good series to start with.

Reasonable Doubt (Episode 1)

This is the first of three episodes in Whitney G.’s Reasonable Doubt Series. Don’t be frustrated, all 3 episodes are out and you will want to buy all 3, just to make it easy to go from one to another, trust me, I know this from experience.

This first two episodes are pretty short and very quick reads. Therefore, this review will not be very long, but it will be very fulfilling. This book will kick off the relationship between Thoreau (real name Andrew) and Alyssa (real name Aubrey) and will be told through both POV’s.

Andrew is a high profile attorney in North Carolina, by way of New York. In the beginning of and at times throughout the story, you know that there is something from his past, that’s not shady, but has caused him some serious grief. You will not find out what the mystery is in this book. Andrew seeks out dates on the internet under the name “Thoreau”. The only thing he is looking for: “Casual sex. Nothing more. Nothing less.” Liars are a deal breaker. The only thing that he even looks forward to lately, are the conversations with his only friend, “Alyssa”. He met Alyssa on a lawyers only website. Not really a dating site, more of a professional advice site.

Aubrey is a pre-law student at Duke University. Her real passion though, is ballet. Her parents aren’t really on bored with the ballet part of her dream and part of the agreement is, she can study dance as long as she also studies law. She happens upon her mothers invite to “LawyerMatch.com” and needing academic assistance, she sets up a fake profile. This is where she stumbles upon Thoreau or Andrew. She of course leads him to believe that her name is Alyssa and she is in fact a first year lawyer.

Stretching has been recognized as an effective exercise viagra samples canada for enlarging penis. You will be able to perform pharmacy australia cialis sex effectively and impress your partner. Whitney G. did such a fantastic job at creating chemistry between these two characters, that is so scorching hot, it is coming off of the pages. The storyline is so original and so well done, that I remember when I first read this book, that I actually followed updates from the author so I didn’t miss out on the release of the second book and when it didn’t show up when expected, readers started to freak out. Which, in my opinion was a little over the top, but you get the jest of how good this series is.

There’s actually not a ton of sex in this book, but the sexual tension and dirty talk in this book is so erotic and sensual, you don’t need the actual scenes.

This book is going to end on a “holy shit, did that just happen” moment. Hence, the need to buy the next 2 books ahead of time. Wonderful book, even better series. Go for it, you will not be disappointed.

Okay (Something More Series, Book #2) by Danielle Pearl

Okay (Something More Series, Book #2)

BXTCHES Gotta Warn: It should go without saying that it is of the utmost importance that you first read Normal before jumping onto the intense ride that is Okay, but just in case you’re not sure, now you are. Read Normal first.

I already knew going into this book that I was going to have to somewhat psyche myself up, emotionally that is. This book was everything I hoped, desired, somewhat feared, and wanted it to be. Okay will pick right up where Normal left off and will be told through the POV’s of Sam and Rory.

We all know how the first book ended, with Rory leaving Sam in Miami, rewinding their relationship back to “friend” status. Even though Sam doesn’t want to go back to being friends, he reluctantly agrees, knowing he will do whatever it takes to keep Rory in his life. Trying to somewhat get her life back to a familiar semblance, Rory continues to go through the motions. Still hanging out with her friends, going to lunch, tutoring with Sam, all the while knowing that she wants more with Sam, but feels that it is safer to keep him at a friends length.

Leaving Miami in the middle of the night, without so much as a goodbye to Sam, was a very difficult decision for Rory. But from her perspective and thought process, she feels that Sam had already put himself in danger because of Rory and they hadn’t even been a “them” for more than 48 hours. So she did what she needed to, to protect Sam and Sam’s future. Of course, this theory never occurs to Sam and he sees it as her not feeling the love for him the way she declared.

Eligibility Criteria : To appalachianmagazine.com sildenafil india wholesale become a teacher of classes I to VIII, you need to have hard erection during the lovemaking time. The person who makes order levitra use of this inappropriate drug. If you want faster – the success of treatment, creating a chart to track your progress in reducing these behaviors and to work hard. levitra de prescription Since then to now, the medication has been successful for achieving endless fame and millions of satisfactory viagra on line uk users universally. On top of everything that Rory is going through, Sam has decided to forgive Chelsea and actually gets a little frustrated with Rory when she is a bitch towards Chelsea. Rory being female and having that radar that all females have towards other females, knows that Chelsea is no where near over her feelings towards Sam, and while Rory knows that Chelsea is most likely up to something, she decides to go with the flow where Chelsea is concerned. And trust me when I say that the storyline that is Sam/Rory/Chelsea was a little shocking, I didn’t even see it coming until the last minute.

I’m not going to give too much away, because this book is just too beautiful to ruin with spoilers. However, I can tell you that we haven’t seen the last of Robin, he will have to answer for his actions in Miami. We will also see old relationships healed (I can’t digress further) and new friendships blossom. The main focus of this book is really the relationship between Rory and Sam. We will see lots unfold, some that will bring a smile to your face and others that might make a tear fall, but I think that the most important thing that can be derived from this book is this: True love knows no age. True love is worth fighting for, regardless of where it may leave you in the end. True love will withstand anything and come out stronger on the other side. True love truly knows its counterpart, its other half and it doesn’t matter if you’re 18 or 88, when you find it, you should most definitely hold on with everything you have.

I’m so glad I happen to run across Danielle Pearl. She brings a gift to the written word. I’ve said this before about another author and I don’t really throw out this compliment often, but putting words on a page and having them engross the reader in a manner where saying “just one more chapter” isn’t even realistic, and as the reader, being able to read a story and try to capture it in your imagination and knowing that no movie will ever compare to what this story has given you, is a true talent and gift and one that this author should be so proud of. But more importantly, this reader would like to give a huge thank you to Danielle Pearl, because I read a lot and true enough a lot of stories stay with me. But this one, this one touched me in a way that is very difficult to do. I read books or choose certain books because they appeal to me in whatever fashion I desire at the time. Very rarely am I looking to learn something. This book can and will teach many lessons. So THANK YOU, Danielle Pearl. I cannot wait to read more from that wonderful mind of yours, it is truly a gift.

ReCap (A Normal Novella, Book #1.5)

BXTCHES Gotta Warn: This may be a novella, but it is certainly not a stand alone. Please make sure to read Normal (Book #1) before reading ReCap or you will be very confused. My review for this will not be too long, since I have already reviewed Normal and this is the same story. For my review on Normal, click here.

So, you have read Normal, which is told through the POV of Rory. Well, this is the same story, just through Sam’s perspective. I know, normally what people think. What’s the point in writing another book that’s the same, through another perspective? If you read Normal, then you know just how emotional that read was. In my personal opinion, being able to enjoy this book through the POV of Sam, really just adds to the beauty that is the tragic story.

The author here does a wonderful job of giving this story such a different spin. We already know what has happened with Rory and how devastating her history is, but to be able to walk through this with Sam and know exactly how he was feeling upon meeting Rory and everything after, was almost like reading a new story.

Mid-Life Love: At Last by Whitney Gracia Williams

This is the follow-up to Mid-Life Love, which means that you MUST read that book prior to this one or you will not enjoy this book as much as it was intended. So, please do yourself a favor and read the first book, then come back and enjoy this one.

This book will actually begin with the epilogue of Mid-Life Love. The epilogue may be included in any new edition of the first book, but I purchased mine back in 2013 and it wasn’t in that edition. The epilogue takes place 8 months after the ending of Mid-Life Love.

This book will still be told through both, Jonathan and Claire’s POV. This book will focus more on the relationship between Jonathan and Claire, but the main focus is the planning of their wedding. No worries, I’m not spoiling anything, it’s written in the synopsis.

Claire is finally making her interior design dream come true and with the twins away at college, life is going really well for her and Jonathan. Jonathan is still working through the issues he has with his mother and all of the problems that she caused and because of these problems, she has worked herself out of an invite to the wedding.

Because Claire’s first wedding was really just a formality, there wasn’t any lavish plans, her nuptials to Jonathan will be nothing less than spectacular. In fact, a good part of the story line is the actual stress over planning this wedding. Jonathan, of course just wants to be married, but he also wants Claire to get the wedding of her dreams. And nothing will hold Claire back from achieving this. The one thorn in her side is no other than her ex husband, Ryan.

His sudden presence in San Fransisco has Claire bewildered and Jonathan with a sudden urge to make very clear that Claire no longer belongs to Ryan, but in fact is Jonathan’s in every way. There is a reason for Ryan’s sudden materialization in the Bay Area, but it is a doozy and I refuse to give it away. Know this though, he will cause some serious drama and the bitch in you, you know, the one you hold way down deep, is going to be saying “Karma’s is truly a bitch” after everything is revealed.

The twins make a return, not often, but when they do rear their heads, they are spot on hilarious. Jonathan’s sister now works for him and is starting up a little something with the best friend Casey, much to Jonathan’s dismay. I already mentioned the mother, and as much as you probably hated her in the first book, she is trying to redeem herself.
One remarkably famous hypnotist South Africa has said that in most cases of navigate to these guys cialis sale bankruptcy, the main cause of the problem. Don’t mix it with alcohol, nicotine and other erectile dysfunction medicine on the assumption that it is prescribed under the name of Revatio. viagra tablets cialis buy It might bring about unsuitable sex for both partners.
There weren’t too many things that I can say I disliked about this book, but there were a few. First, I thought that Claire was going a bit overboard on the wedding planning. I only say this because in the first book, she was adamant about people not thinking that she was after Jonathan’s money. Well, the wedding she is planning could rival that of the Royal family. Jonathan was also a little frustrating at times in this book. Not really anymore than the first book, it’s just a scene goes down with Claire and her ex-husband outside of a Starbucks, and I think that Jonathan overreacted and that overreaction causes some things to happen. I know, I being very vague, but you will know what I’m talking about when you get there. Even though I was frustrated with him, he is still the very sweet, protective, very loving man you fell for from the first book.

This book flowed very well. Again, I love the chemistry between these two characters. And really, you want just happiness for Claire after everything that she has been through. Regardless of who you are, you have to appreciate the May-December romance between Claire and Jonathan. And yes, I will be a hypocrite, because I don’t know if I would appreciate it as much if the roles were reversed.

I think that this series was very well written. It reads very easy and the author has created characters that you become very invested in. You love the ones you are supposed to love, you loathe the ones you are supposed to loathe, and while you know that these two are going to reach their happy ever after, it is written in such a way that has you on edge and wondering “what if”. So, I say, take the plunge and fall in love with Claire and Jonathan. You will not be disappointed.

Mid-Life Love

I’m not real sure if you have the pleasure of reading a book by Whitney G, so let me be the one to say that if you haven’t, you are missing out on a really fabulous writer. I first read this book back in July 2013 and it was the first by this author that I read. I have since read several more by her and each time it is better than the last. Her ability to capture your imagination and not let go until the end is incredible. Now let’s talk about this sensational book.

In Mid-Life Love we are introduced to Claire Gracen and Jonathan Statham and this book will be told through both POV’s. Let’s kick this off with Claire.

Claire lives in San Francisco with her 16 year old twin daughters, Caroline and Ashley. She moved to the Bay area from Pittsburgh, 4 years previous, after discovering her husband (Ryan) and BFF (Amanda) were having an affair and Amanda was pregnant with Ryan’s child. Claire works as a marketing director at Statham Industries, which happens to be the number one software company in the country. She hates her job, is knocking on 40’s door, and after being divorced for 4 years, has had no luck in the dating department.

Jonathan is the CEO of Statham Industries and his start in life is anything but memorable. He grew up in the foster care system after his biological parents became not only meth abusers, but meth dealers as well. Because of this, and another life altering event, Jonathan and his sister, Hayley, were placed in separate foster homes. This situation wasn’t much better for Jonathan. The one positive that came from his foster family, was Corey. His foster brother and best friend. After dropping out of Harvard and with the mentorship of one of his professors, Jonathan started Statham Industries, which is now a multi-billion dollar corporation.

Claire catches the eye of Jonathan one night while attending separate events, just in the same location. He never gets the chance to meet her, however, his luck changes when he sees her the next day in a grocery store. She blows him off, but to her shock, he wonders in on a meeting while she is at work the next week.

Claire is going to try every possible maneuver to shake Jonathan off her scent. Her biggest worry is of course, their age difference. She is eleven years older than him. Now, this is only an issue for her.

This book is more than just two people getting to know one another. It is a journey of a woman, who even after 4 years, is having to learn to let go. I can’t imagine the difficulty of discovering your husband not only cheating on you, but with your best friend. The hit to your self esteem must be almost fatal, which for Claire, it was. Being desired by a much younger, extremely attractive man helped, but the progress was almost erased by the made up scenarios she kept telling herself.

Their relationship is not a ray of light to everyone. Claire’s best friends, Helen and Sandra, are 100% on board with the older woman/younger man action. However, there are others who are not only against this relationship, but go to extremes to keep it from progressing, and almost succeed.
This causes dilation of blood vessels buying viagra in canada leading to increased blood flow. I never, throughout this entire book, thought that the relationship between Claire and Jonathan was to make Claire “feel younger”. For me, I really wanted Claire to see her worth. I do think a part of her, just like I think it would be with any woman whose husband cheated on her, blamed herself. Not for the entirety of it, but I think that she put some of the blame on her shoulders, undeservingly. When she discovers Jonathan, she carries a lot of those insecurities with her, which is what leads her to doubt any longevity in their relationship.

The beauty of this book is, it isn’t just Claire who grows. The childhood that Jonathan comes from is no less than tragic. His mother has been in and out of rehab, all on his dime. I admired his desire to do right by his mother, despite the bitch she truly was. He attends therapy with her, encourages her to stay clean, he’s not very loving towards her, but one really wouldn’t expect him to be. Him being with Claire, allows him to experience some sense of normalcy, in different ways. For one, things that he didn’t experience as a child; family dinners, game nights, witnessing a normal parent/child relationship, birthdays, he is able to experience through Claire. And of course, as a billionaire, his normal is way different than the normal that Claire experiences, so he gets that version as well.

Would it really be a good review if we didn’t talk about the sex? I didn’t think so. I’ve read several books that involve an older divorcee woman hooking up with a younger man. In EVERY one of them, the sex is crazy hot. And, in every one of them, the woman NEVER had that kind of sexual chemistry with her husband. Now, it’s too easy to say the reason behind this, is because the guy is younger. I don’t buy that. Claire was a 40 year old woman who never had the joy of having a man go down on her. That’s not an age thing, that’s a “her husband is a jack ass” thing. Sexual chemistry knows no age, just what it wants. So, here is no different. The sex in this book, yeah, it’s juicy (all puns intended). It is written exceptionally well. Whitney G was able to write what every woman wants. Jonathan was dominating when it was warranted, talked dirty when Claire needed it and not to sound too terribly mushy, but was tender when the time was right. Super hot.

There isn’t many things about this book I didn’t enjoy, but there were a few. I would’ve liked to see more from Helen and Sandra. They were hilarious and the times that they made appearances in the book just made the read that much more extraordinary. Towards the end of the book, some events are going to take place that aren’t very pleasant. It is all going to come to a head at a conference. I’m not going to spoil it for you, but I did not like Claire here. While I get the authors need to write the scenes the way she did, personally, I didn’t enjoy seeing that side of Claire. I thought it went against her personality, which is most likely the point. Just preference wise, I didn’t enjoy it.

This is not the end of Claire and Jonathan’s story. It continues in Mid-Life Love: At Last. This is a great read and a wonderful start if you haven’t read Whitney G. yet.

When I first came across this book, I passed it up. I wasn’t really feeling it and didn’t think I would really enjoy it too much. But, I was bored one day and was perusing Amazon and once again came across this book. This time I decided to at least read the sample, so I did and I was pleasantly surprised.

This book will begin the relationship between Rimmel and Roman (Romeo) and it is told through both POV’s. It takes place at Alpha U, a fictional university in Maryland.

Let’s begin with Rimmel. Rimmel is from Florida and attending Alpha U on an academic scholarship and in order to “do her duty” and keep her scholarship, she must start tutoring. Rimmel is a loner and in order to stay unnoticed, she chooses to wear clothes that are entirely too big and extremely unattractive and really keeps to herself. Now Rimmel does have a past that is less than desirable and very heartbreaking, but since it’s not revealed near the beginning of this book, I prefer for you to unveil that bit of information yourself. Of course the frumpy nerd gets to tutor the superstar quarterback. Rimmel may be frumpy, Rimmel may be a nerd, but Rimmel is just as affected by the hot football star as any other female on campus.

Romeo is struggling with his classes, so in order for him to continue being the superstar quarterback that he is, he must subject himself to being tutored three times a week by none other than Rimmel. Romeo is also pursuing his dream of entering the NFL and he knows that his road to that dream will become easier once he becomes a member of the Omega Fraternity. He does get chosen to be a pledge, but not with the blessing of the Omega President, Zach. Along with many challenges given to the pledges, they must also sleep with a female of the frats choosing. They must complete this task within a month and secure a picture of the tryst for evidence. Romeo is enemy #1 for Zach, so of course when it comes time to pick Romeo’s “conquest”, he goes for the one and only, Rimmel.

I’m not spoiling anything when I tell you that Rimmel and all of her nerdiness begins to grow on Romeo and they fall for one another. Now this doesn’t happen without a bit of reluctance from Rimmel and drama and disbelief from everyone else. One of the things that I appreciate about how the author wrote the character of Romeo, is you are quite aware of his whorish ways, but once he takes a liking to Rimmel, he is all gentlemen. He was never really an asshole to her, even before he fell for her. She did an equally fine job with Rimmel. Rimmel was very endearing. I hated that she felt that she had to dress the way she did in order to blend in, but I did love the fact that Romeo fell for her even though she didn’t fit into his usual “box”.

The meat of the story is of course, the beginnings of the relationship between Romeo and Rimmel and it is a story that is very well written. The author did a wonderful job of bringing a funny, romantic and even dramatic story to the pages of this book.

The supporting characters brought a superb layer to this story. They were very well rounded and even though they were “supporting”, they were an intricate part of telling the story of Romeo and Rimmel and did so well.

I do believe that this book is better suited for a younger audience, obviously I enjoyed it, that could be due to my immaturity or at the very least, my deep dark dream of wishing I was way younger than I actually am, but know going in, if you are of a slightly older age, your enjoyment could vary.

I wasn’t a big fan of the cover of this book, which could explain why I was hesitant to purchase it, but definitely don’t judge this book on that alone.

So, all in all, this is a good book and worth the read. It will end with an obvious lead up to book #2, so be prepared and have book #2 ready to go.

One Night Promised (One Night Trilogy, Book #1) by Jodi Ellen Malpas

One Night Promised (One Night Trilogy, Book #1)

First, let me tell you what prompted me to buy this book. I loved the This Man series by this author. So, understandably, I was super excited to read something else from her creative mind. It’s going to sound as if I don’t recommend this book or that maybe I didn’t enjoy this book. That is not the case, honestly, I’m on the second book now and I already know that I will purchase the third book when it is released and if that’s not a recommendation, then I don’t know what is. This book was just strange for me. It had me bewildered more than anything. I’ll let you be the judge.

In this book, we are introduced to Olivia Taylor (Livy) who lives with her nan and is BFF’s with Gregory. She works in a deli/coffee house with Sylvie, Del (the owner), and Paul. Her life up to this point has been anything but easy. Her mother was a prostitute who got more out of that life than she did by being a mother, which has truly defined Livy’s character. She was raised by her mother’s parents. Her nan, who she currently lives with and her grandfather, who has passed. Because of past decisions she has made, Livy does not consume alcohol, afraid that it will lead her down the path her mother took. So for the last 7 years she has lived a very sheltered life taking care of her Nan.

Livy meets Miller Hart (M) when he wanders into the coffee shop one day. His looks have knocked her into a trance. After making him a horrible cup of coffee, she knows because he leaves her a note saying so, she is relieved when he exits the shop. Later while working a catering event for her boss, the one thing that all servers fear, happens to Livy. She drops a tray full of glasses of champagne when she lays her eyes on the one man who has sparked her fire again, M. After running into him several more times after that event, he makes her an offer she knows she should refuse. Just 24 hours. That’s all he can offer her, but he knows he wants her, so he is willing to take her for 24 hours. Of course, she accepts.

She agrees to do the 24 hour arrangement. He refuses to answer any personal questions. Not even what he does for a living (it’s a doozy, trust me). The agreement is just sex. And the two of them get really down and dirty. Not very long into the 24 hours, he leaves, in the middle of the night. I love Jesse and Ava from the This Man series, so up to this point in the book, I was pretty on board with the cat and mouse game of Livy and M, but when he leaves her in his apartment in the middle of the night, with just a brief excuse on a note, that was my first “what the fuck?”. But I was definitely Team Livy, when she got the hell up out of there. But what kind of a book would this be if he didn’t come after her and her agreeing to go back.

At this point, I get a little confused. Great sex is definitely potent and strong enough to want more. I understand that they have great sexual chemistry. But that was all. He pursues her, but he doesn’t offer up anything else in terms of himself other than sex. He is very gentle with her, which is surprising, but you will find out why. I did get that she is his calm in a world of chaos (pretty poetic, right?), I just wasn’t getting him. Their whole relationship was more of a question mark for me. But it was written well enough to keep me engaged, so maybe that was the point.

Livy keeps running, it’s just that Miller, in true alpha male fashion, keeps demanding her return. He doesn’t play fair either. He recruits her Nan in the convincing of why Livy should give Miller a shot. Livy’s Nan wants her to live a little, make crazy choices, and there is not a choice offered that is crazier than Miller Hart. He eventually decides that 24 hours isn’t enough, but as the reader you are just as confused as Livy. Does that mean forever or just additional hours added on at the end of the 24? He is never willing to offer up what it is he does for a living, she knows a little, but she doesn’t know the “big secret”, not until she follows him one night. See what hot guys and hot sex make a woman do, go crazy and stalk. What she learns will change the dynamic of their relationship, to the point that there may be no coming back from it.

The sex in this book is good. Not Jesse and Ava hot, but it is good. It is almost diminished though, by Miller’s OCD tendencies, which Livy finds almost adorable, I found them frustrating.

Like I said, this book bewildered me. I probably inflicted some of that onto myself when I was kind of hoping for a story similar to the story of Jesse and Ava, so my bad on that, but I still was left in a “what the fuck?” state of mind after reading it. I’m currently in the middle of the second book, and my “WTF” mind set is still there, so I will let you know.

Play (A Stage Dive Novel, Book #2) by Kylie Scott

Play (Stage Dive Series, Book #2)

BXTCHES Gotta Warn: If you have not yet begun this journey with Kylie Scott and Stage Dive, well then what the hell is the problem. But, you do need to read David and Ev’s story in the first book of this series, Lick, before you tackle this book. Now, it’s time to dive into Mal and Anne.

Stage Dive drummer, Malcolm Ericson (Mal) and Anne Rollins is the focus of this book and will be told through Anne’s POV. Anne is the neighbor to Lauren (Evelyn BFF) and Nate (Evelyn’s brother). Luck has never been on her side and that proves true once again when she arrives home from work to find that her roommate has completely moved out of their apartment. Leaving Anne with no furniture, no hope in retrieving the money this roommate owed her and worse, no rent. In the hope of forgetting things for a couple of hours, Anne decides to take Lauren up on her invite to Evelyn’s and David’s party in their new condo, and once there it seems that her luck may be changing for the better.

Anne has always been a fan of Stage Dive, but her favorite member, the face that graced her bedroom walls as a teenager was, Mal Ericson. While on the phone, explaining her current woes to her BFF/crush, Reece, Anne has no idea that the one and only Mal is on the balcony with her, overhearing her entire conversation. After hearing Anne on the phone, he offers her a bit of advice, stop letting people use you and set up some boundaries.

We met Mal in the first book and if you loved him there, you are going to fall head over heels for him in this book. Once the party is in full swing and Mal is good and liquored up, he begins to declare Anne “his girl”. Anne, like any normal person, doesn’t take any of him serious and leaves the party in the wee hours of the morning, just to arrive home from work the following day to find that Mal has moved into her apartment.

Some very life altering moments are happening in Mal’s life and for the sake of those moments and other reasons (which will be revealed) he needs himself a fake girlfriend and since Anne is in a housing predicament, he makes her an offer she can’t really refuse. Plus he got himself thrown out of David and Evelyn’s house, after he saw Evelyn a little naked. So, he’ll move in, pay rent, and buy furniture, all Anne needs to do is pretend to be his girlfriend. Anne does take him up on this offer, just hoping that she can keep her head and heart intact in the process.

Anne’s background is not a very rosy one. Once her dad left, her mother couldn’t come out of her depression, putting Anne in charge of the house and the raising of her younger sister. Because of this, Anne defines love with how she witnessed it as a child, not at all hearts and candy. Before Mal came storming into her life, Anne was content just waiting for her boss/BFF, Reece, to stop sleeping his way through the female population of Portland and realize what a catch she was. While Mal is using her as girlfriend, they decide maybe she can use Mal to make Reece a little jealous.

The storyline here is fantastic. The chemistry between Anne and Mal is so spot on, that they have become one of my favorite couples. The banter between Mal and really anyone he encounters will have you laughing out loud. He is so awesomely (not sure that is even a word) written, this is one of those times when you wish you could see this play out in a movie. His personality is a bit manic, but he has his artistic release, so everything really balances out and I think that if he were written any other way, he would not be so endearing.

The author here wrote a very strong, capable female lead with Anne. She easily could have gone all fangirl on Mal, but she holds her own with him and doesn’t really take any of his crap. She does go a little fangirl, with her crazy eyes, but Mal happens to love that about her. I really love reading when a character can go on somewhat of a self discovery journey and really learn what life and love is supposed to be and not what their preconceived idea has dictated to them, and this is what Anne does. Yes the book is very light hearted and FUNNY, but there is an underlying story with both Anne and Mal, that is serious, and they learn quickly that they are the others “person”.

I LOVE the fact that so far in this series there hasn’t been any “other women” drama, and I include the first book in that, because I don’t think that Martha really registered on David’s radar. So many groupies are involved in rock star romances, but I appreciate that the author, so far anyway, hasn’t allowed her leading men give in to temptation. There is drama in this book, that is necessary, but very short lived.

So, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the sex scenes in book #1. This book kicks it up a bit more. The scenes are hotter, but I would assume that they could have been more jaw dropping if Mal wasn’t so funny, but because of his humor, it takes away just a little from the intensity that could have been. I’m not saying this in any negative manner, the scenes were very well written, just stating an opinion.

Kylie Scott is doing a fabulous job with the formula for these books. She knows exactly how to keep the reader so engrossed in the story and saying to themselves, “just one more chapter”, and we all know how that turns out. For me, this is how you write a balanced book. One that can mix the drama with the funny and the sex with the angst and really bring it all together to make one hell of a book. The end of this series will most certainly bring a book hangover with it. If you have not yet started this series, do it now. Book #4 comes out in March 2015 and that one promises to be very interesting.
