#Player (Hashtag Series, Book #3) by Cambria Hebert

BXTCHES Gotta Warn: Remember that this book is not a stand alone. Each books flows into the next, so it is important that you have already enjoyed the first two books (#Nerd) & (#Hater) BEFORE you indulge in this one.

Like the other books in this series, this one will be told through the POV of both Romeo and Rimmel.

Let’s just dive right in and pick up where #Hater left off. So, Zach turned out to be a crazy fuck like we all expected and turned that crazy right onto Rimmel. I mean, he hung her to a goal post for crying out loud, that’s something only a wackadoodle could conjure up. This book will kick off in the hospital, where of course both Romeo and Rimmel have been taken. Fortunately, Rimmel doesn’t suffer from anything being broken, however, she does has some nasty bruises and rope burn. Romeo didn’t get the lucky end of the stick. His arm, his throwing arm, is actually broken. The good news is, no surgery. The bad news, what’s going to happen now with the NFL? Thank goodness, Romeo isn’t going to let a little broken arm keep him from his dreams.

The drama with Zach is going to take up the first part of the book. Don’t worry, all questions will be put to rest and there will most certainly be some closure. If you’re wondering what has happened with the plagiarism charge, I will just say: “really, you haven’t figured that one out by now?”, but in case you haven’t, that too will be answered.

Now, usually I don’t like to give away any information that I find crucial to the story, but this bit of juiciness is revealed while the two lovebirds are in the hospital, so that’s pretty early on in the book, which in my eyes makes the reveal acceptable. Okay, here goes, get ready because it’s a doozy: the P.I. that Romeo’s mother hired to look into “the girl that her son was falling in love with”, discovered that Rimmel’s father has something to do with the death of her mother. This news is going to hit Rimmel like a ton of bricks and strain the short relationship that Rimmel has somewhat built with Romeo’s mom, not to mention it making things not so great between Romeo and his mother.

Despite the tension between the mom and Rimmel, the fundraiser for the animal shelter is still on and by the looks and success of it, Romeo’s mother really knows how to throw a party while having people throw money at the cause. Because of this, she is slowly moving back into the good graces of Rimmel. If you thought that with the drama involving Zach was the last bit of drama for the lovely couple, well that was a cake walk compared to what is facing them. I won’t go into detail, because really where is the fun in that for you and I’ve given away a lot already. But I will say that it involves Rimmel’s past and every ghost that has haunted her while dragging her future right into the middle of it.

In this story we get a glimpse of a Rimmel trying to loosen up and live the college life. Having a boyfriend was certainly new territory for Rimmel, but so was having a group of close friends. I like drama in a good read and this book exceeds that expectation for me (in a good way), but I really like to see a character that I have grown to adore really open up and experience things that she has missed out on. It’s was nice in this book to have moments where you were able to take a break from the build up and really laugh.

There’s not a ton here from the supporting cast that we have grown to love. There is some and those moments remind you why you fell in love with them in the first place. But that’s okay because we get Braeden next and I’m so looking forward to that. I have to add that the relationship that builds or really has been building between Braeden and Rimmel is so lovely (I know that’s kind of a cheesy word, but true). He has definitely become her BBFL and wears that honor with the utmost pride.

I said it in the review of the second book, so I feel that I need to address in this one as well. My only issue again with this series, is how the author address the NFL storyline. I would be more accepting of how it was written if she used a fictional league name. She does use a fictional team, but everyone knows “NFL” and how she forms the way that Romeo enters the league is just off the mark. But, it’s okay because it’s not enough for me not to love this series. Just a nitpick really.

It’s always somewhat strange for me to write about the sex in books where the characters are as young as these two are, but what kind of BXTCH would I be if I didn’t comment on it. I think that Cambria Hebert does a really good job and what I believe is a realistic job of writing good scenes involving the bedroom. Now, I don’t think that they’re “Alpha” like or sheet burning type of scenes, but they deliver on what she needs them to and that is sex that is hot enough to be referred to as fucking while soft enough to get the love that Romeo and Rimmel share across to the reader.

We get a good epilogue here. One that brings closure to Romeo and Rimmel’s story, but one that I hope somewhat finishes in future books. With Braeden being the next in line in this series, I’m quite sure that we will be hearing from them again.
