The Gentleman Mentor (Lessons of the Dom Series, Book #1) by Kendall Ryan

BXTCHES Gotta Warn: Well, first I’m not sure how I missed this book, it came out back in May and I just now ran across it, I must be dropping the ball somewhere. But, let me tell you this about The Gentleman Mentor: this is a book that somewhat centers itself around the BDSM lifestyle. Whether or not this author gets the lifestyle down accurately, I don’t know, it’s not a lifestyle that I practice, but funny enough, I don’t really care, it is well written and sexy as hell. So, my suggestion. . . just sit back, relax, and enjoy the fuck out of this book.

The Gentleman Mentor will be told through the POV’s of both Hale and Brielle.

Brielle is a single woman in her late 20’s, who has been pining after her best guy friend (Kirby) for 5 long years. She has only had 2 serious relationships, but lots and lots of failed first dates. She comes across an ad for The Gentleman Mentor on a dating site. An ad that promises to teach a woman not only seduction techniques, but guarantees to teach a woman how to achieve climax with and without a partner, basically he’s going to teach a woman how to be irresistible and extremely fuckable.

Enter Hale, actually, Cameron Hale. He is a senior associate in a law firm, who has kind of been dealt a crappy hand in life. His parents were killed in an accident when he was just a teenager, leaving him and his sister in the care of a family friend and as he entered his adulthood, he got kneed in the balls with another crappy hand. Because of that incident, he entered the Dom lifestyle and The Gentleman Mentor was born.

So, emails get exchanged and agreements get made. Before Brielle realizes, it’s time to meet up with The Gentleman Mentor. Once they meet one another, it’s agreed that they will meet for 6 lessons and by the end of their sessions, Kirby will be falling head over heels for Brielle. However, without telling her, Hale believes that if Kirby hasn’t yet noticed her, no amount of lessons are going to change that. “He’s just not that into you” and all that. Regardless, Hale is super stoked with the idea of getting Brielle ready.

There are a number of aspects that must be kept in mind that this medicine isn’t for all. get cialis There are a wide range brand viagra of possible physical causes of impotency. However, what you should know is that there are pediatric chiropractors who specialize in providing chiropractic care to the patients regarding kidney disease then take an appointment of Dr. levitra generic canada So, make changes in your lifestyle http://amerikabulteni.com/2020/09/17/sinzo-abe-deyip-gecmeyin/ prescription for cialis purchase and lead an active lifestyle Do regular exercise. Obviously, feelings change and the stakes grow a bit different as Hale and Brielle move further and further into their lessons. But as with any well written story, there are some secrets that will need to be let out of the bag before any relationships can actually move forward.

The supporting cast here is very minimal, but does well at making a presence. The most prominent character, for me, is Reece. He is the owner of the BDSM club that Hale is a member of, as well as a long time friend. His story is next in the series, so it makes sense that his foundation has been laid.

Get ready, The Gentleman Mentor is not only going to melt your panties right off, but it’s going to go straight for your lady bits as well. I must say, I would’ve been very disappointed if the sex here was mediocre, I mean the whole plot of the book, is sex driven. I don’t necessarily rate a book based solely on the sex, but if the sex is poorly written, then I’m not going to get the tingles and all around I won’t be too terrible happy. But, you BXTCHES need not worry, Kendall Ryan has got one hell of a sexual imagination here, so much so, you may be taking notes yourself and pulling some plays out of The Gentleman Mentor’s handbook.

All in all, this is a really captivating story, even knowing that love would be found in the end. I can even say that you’ll probably figure out what the secret is before it’s actually revealed in the book, but for me, that made it even more enthralling. What I loved most about The Gentleman Mentor was while it was very sexual and somewhat taboo, it features a character (Brielle) who thinks she knows what she wants out of life, but Hale pushes her past what is comfortable and because of this she really figures out her true self. I love a leading male who can talk dirty with the best of them and Kendall Ryan does a fabulous job of writing from the male perspective and accomplishing this. I think a true test to a great book is how difficult it becomes to put down. The Gentleman Mentor was definitely a page turner and very hard to take a break from, it will grab you from page one and not let go until you’ve turned the final page.

Well, I will be diving into book #2 (Sinfully Mine) very soon and I can’t wait, because I already know that the story is going to revolve around Reece (as mentioned above) and Hale’s little sister and this is one BXTCH who loves the best friend/sister stories. BXTCHES Gotta Warn: Here’s another book that I’m pretty sure I came across while scrolling Facebook. Truthfully, Wrong didn’t sound all that appealing to me, but I went ahead and downloaded the sample and without anything to read (yeah, right) I decided to give it a go. Holy shit, I was floored over how great this book is. While this may be Jana Aston’s first novel, she hit it right out of the ball park with this one.

Wrong will be told through the POV of our leading lady, Sophie.

Sophie is a senior in college, working her way through classes, while working in a local coffee shop. It is here that she first lays her eyes on Luke. Luke comes into Grind Me like clockwork, every week and every week Sophie imagines what it would be like to be pressed up against him. Sophie’s luck with men is less than extraordinary. She was in a two year relationship with someone who happened to be gay. Though it is through that relationship that she perfected her blowjob skills. I should probably mention that Sophie is as pure as the fallen snow (maybe not that pure, but she is still hanging on to that hymen) and is preparing to give it up for the first time to her boyfriend, Mike. In order for that to happen, she needs to get herself on the pill, safety first and all that jazz. So, she shows up at the student clinic for her very first pap smear (eek!) and to get the ball rolling for her special night. While sitting on the exam table, in her paper gown, pondering over whether or not she is supposed to remove her socks, in walks the man who has been the one constant in her spank bank. Yes, it is Luke who happens to be the doctor about to perform Sophie’s very first pap smear. And let me just say, the whole scene was comedic gold and super realistic, maybe not the part where she has herself a mini orgasm while on the exam table, can’t say that I have ever experienced that, but c’mon, we all know that the paper has stuck to our asses as we have gotten up to get dressed, while we stand there wondering if it’ll be just easier for us to get the table ready for the next patient.

To say that Sophie is humiliated is an understatement, but she isn’t going to let it deter her from her plans. I’m not gonna to go into detail, but it’s not going to take a brain surgeon or a gynecologist to realize that Mike isn’t going to be the one to de-virginize Sophie and I shouldn’t have to tell you who that honor is going to fall upon. So, Wrong really becomes a story of an older, albeit super hot, rich doctor and a 21 year old college student finding a very intense sexual connection and seeing where that leads and all of the angst that comes with it. But let’s get to the good stuff.

First, let’s talk Sophie. She is the kind of female lead that I love. A lot of times, when an author presents a leading character in their 20’s that still happens to be a virgin, it’s not always believable. But here, knowing Sophie’s backstory, you will get it and she wears that “V-Card” very well. Everything about Sophie was lovable, even when she’s being insecure about her relationship with Luke, it was sometimes frustrating, but it was very endearing. She is super funny and is very well versed in putting her foot right into her mouth, but she carries that personality trait well and with pride. There isn’t a huge cast of support in Wrong, but what is there, is brilliant. Sophie’s BFF Everly is one of the best sidekick characters I have read in a really long time and she is the focus in book #2, so we are in for a real treat with her. There is not a dull moment when she is in a scene. Sophie’s grandparents, while only make a brief appearance, carry their own and you can certainly see where Sophie gets her spunk from (they did raise her). The ones you are supposed to love you love and the ones you’re are supposed to hate, you will hate. Overall, the whole entirety of the cast plays well together and will leave you wanting more.

These medicines will promote blood flow to the genitals and help one cialis tadalafil canada attain an erection within 20 minutes.
It’s time to hop between the sheets. First, I need to say this. I read a lot and I read a lot of sexual driven books. Some are good, some not so much. Wrong was FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC! I don’t know if Jana Aston researched by watching some good porn (if so, I need her resources) or if she just lets her inner Jenna Jamison out to play. Either way, it works and it works very well. Luke, Luke, and Luke. He is what you should want the one thrusting into you to be modeled after. The dirty talk alone is enough to curl the pedicure. I am a fan of dirty talk, in the fantasy of the book or in real life, the dirtier the better and she nails it (no pun intended). If you need your man to get a little dirtier with the dialogue while getting ready to feel you up, have him read a couple scenes from Wrong. From the oral, to the foreplay, to the actual fucking, it will have you ready to strip down yourself, so get your partner ready. Oh, and Luke is a tad bit bossy in the bedroom-perfection.

While Wrong is filled with a lot of sexual action and even though Luke and Sophia’s relationship begins with them getting down to some serious scorch hot business, the storyline isn’t all about just that. It has enough drama and comedy and angst and of course sex to keep the pages turning and give you a little bit of a departure-if only for a couple of hours.

I look forward to whatever it is that Ms. Aston is going to dazzle us with next, because a talent such as this needs to be out there for our enjoyment. What can I say, this BXTCH is a bit selfish. You cannot go Wrong with this one. Give me a break, I’ve been waiting this whole review to say that and I had a list, but went with the easy one.

Reasonable Doubt (Episode 1)

This is the first of three episodes in Whitney G.’s Reasonable Doubt Series. Don’t be frustrated, all 3 episodes are out and you will want to buy all 3, just to make it easy to go from one to another, trust me, I know this from experience.

This first two episodes are pretty short and very quick reads. Therefore, this review will not be very long, but it will be very fulfilling. This book will kick off the relationship between Thoreau (real name Andrew) and Alyssa (real name Aubrey) and will be told through both POV’s.

Andrew is a high profile attorney in North Carolina, by way of New York. In the beginning of and at times throughout the story, you know that there is something from his past, that’s not shady, but has caused him some serious grief. You will not find out what the mystery is in this book. Andrew seeks out dates on the internet under the name “Thoreau”. The only thing he is looking for: “Casual sex. Nothing more. Nothing less.” Liars are a deal breaker. The only thing that he even looks forward to lately, are the conversations with his only friend, “Alyssa”. He met Alyssa on a lawyers only website. Not really a dating site, more of a professional advice site.

Aubrey is a pre-law student at Duke University. Her real passion though, is ballet. Her parents aren’t really on bored with the ballet part of her dream and part of the agreement is, she can study dance as long as she also studies law. She happens upon her mothers invite to “LawyerMatch.com” and needing academic assistance, she sets up a fake profile. This is where she stumbles upon Thoreau or Andrew. She of course leads him to believe that her name is Alyssa and she is in fact a first year lawyer.

Stretching has been recognized as an effective exercise viagra samples canada for enlarging penis. You will be able to perform pharmacy australia cialis sex effectively and impress your partner. Whitney G. did such a fantastic job at creating chemistry between these two characters, that is so scorching hot, it is coming off of the pages. The storyline is so original and so well done, that I remember when I first read this book, that I actually followed updates from the author so I didn’t miss out on the release of the second book and when it didn’t show up when expected, readers started to freak out. Which, in my opinion was a little over the top, but you get the jest of how good this series is.

There’s actually not a ton of sex in this book, but the sexual tension and dirty talk in this book is so erotic and sensual, you don’t need the actual scenes.

This book is going to end on a “holy shit, did that just happen” moment. Hence, the need to buy the next 2 books ahead of time. Wonderful book, even better series. Go for it, you will not be disappointed.

Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James

Fifty Shades of GreyFifty Shades of GreySynopsis TagFifty Shades of GreyBxtches Be Blogging Book ReviewsFifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades Series, Book #1)
Well, this seems to be the one that started the craze. I’ll admit, it started it for me as well. I have read this book multiple times (and I do mean multiple), but decided to go at again so I could write a review prior to the movie coming out. Do I think that one should read the book prior to the movie. Yes, I think that the movie is probably going to leave out things and the sex isn’t going to be as detailed. You are definitely going to get more from the book and I think that the movie is really going to be an enhancement to what we’ve already read.

Book #1 in the series will introduce you to Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey. The book is told through Ana’s POV and we are first introduced to Ana as she is preparing to interview Christian for the University’s newspaper. Her BFF Kate is actually the editor of the paper and the one who is supposed to be conducting the interview, but she has come down with the flu and needs to send Ana in her place. To say that Ana is a little intimated to be interviewing such an enigma, is an understatement. Once she arrives at his office, all of her fears come in loud and clear. Even though she is intimidated by Christian, she is also very much attracted to him.

Christian is intrigued by Ana the moment that she falls into his office, literally. For him, there is something about her that calls to his dominant side. Once the interview is concluded, Ana believes that she will never see Christian again and Christian can’t get Ana out of his head. So he does what he needs to in order to see her again and tracks her down at her place of employment. Ana is pretty naive, she doesn’t recognize his attraction to her for what it is. She doesn’t see the same beauty in herself that he sees. Eventually he invites her to coffee, just to later warn her away from him, which only confuses Ana more.

I don’t really want to go through every detail in the story, most likely you know most of it anyway, so let’s just hit the important parts. Not only is Ana naive, she is purely innocent. A virgin with very limited sexual experience. Not even masturbation. So when Christian invites her back to his apartment with the hopes of her becoming his next submissive, he is beyond flabbergasted when she reveals this tidbit of information. Flabbergasted, but happy to rid her of her virginity. There is a contract, that is very detailed of his expectations. Ana is very leery of signing the contract, but understands that in order to be with Christian she must be what Christian needs, which is a sub.

This first book is not my favorite out of the three. I enjoyed it very much, but it is a “getting to know you” type of book. It is more of Christian embracing ideas that NEVER interested him before and Ana really opening up her sexual side to not only benefit Christian, but herself as well. There is a lot of happenings in this book, but it is not difficult to keep up with it. I obviously glossed over or totally left out a lot of detail, but the main premise of the book is Christian wants Ana as his submissive and while Ana wants to be with Christian in a normal relationship, she realizes that they may never exist for her with Christian.

Here’s the thing, I know that a lot of people criticized this book. Some for the writing and other’s for the false representation of the BDSM lifestyle. As far as the writing. I enjoyed it. Now, I will admit that some of the dialogue seemed to be a bit stuffy. It’s hard to imagine people in their twenties speaking the way that Ana and Christian did at times, but not at all impossible. There were times that Ana is annoying, but I think it’s more of her naivety that’s annoying, more than it is her. As far as the lifestyle, I have no flippin’ clue if it’s accurate, and honestly, I don’t care. I didn’t intend for it to be a guide into the lifestyle. It was written to be intriguing, which it was. I don’t think that this book was written to change literature (although, I do think it changed something), it was written as pure entertainment and that it is.

So, let’s discuss what the book is really about: SEX. E.L. James did a fantastic job writing the sex scenes. There is A LOT of sex in this book. It is white hot and at times, jaw dropping in both good and shocking ways, there is a scene where he removes her tampon (which will not be in the movie), see jaw dropping. With all due respect to the BDSM’rs, Ms. James had to do some sort of research, because the scenes that she comes up with, especially those in the Red Room of Pain are very detailed and if they just came purely from her imagination, then she deserves some sort of an award. There’s a reason why babies were conceived upon their mom’s reading this book. BUT PLEASE DON’T REFER TO IT AS MOMMY PORN.

There are other characters introduced in this book that is important to the story line. There is Jose, who is a very good friend to Ana. He happens to be attracted to her and would like to explore the idea of a relationship with her, but she isn’t interested in him that way. Christian is not fond of him at all, which has a lot to do with the fact that he is an extremely jealous man, but also because he witnessed Jose forcefully kissing Ana once when she was quite drunk. Kate is Ana’s BFF and roommate. Kate comes from a very wealthy family and finds Christian to be creepy and often warns Ana to be careful around him. Kate begins to date Elliot, who happens to be Christian’s brother. Ray is Ana’s step-father, but in her eyes he is the man who raised her. Carla is her mother and she currently lives in Georgia. Christian’s parents are Grace and Carrick, who are thrilled that Christian has finally found someone. Taylor is the bodyguard/right hand man.

I do love this book, it’s just the next books are much more adventurous. So, if you are just tackling these books, go ahead and buy all three so you can go right into the next one. Trust me, once the way the first book ends, you are going to want to have the second book on hand. I am one who cannot wait for the movie, even though I was super excited when it was going to be Charlie Hunnam. I do hope that it does the book some justice, I know I will probably be disappointed in parts, but the trailers so far have left me wanting.

THE MOVIE. . .
I’m sure by now you have gone with the masses and have seen this movie. Well, what did you think? This was a movie I was looking so forward to, even though I suspected that I was going to be let down somewhat. So let’s discuss.
As far as looks, I think that Jamie Dornan looks the way I pictured Christian Grey to look (even if a little part of me is still longing for a Charlie Hunnam “Christian”). And even Dakota Johnson, I think that she filled out Ana the way I imagined when I read the book. I’m just talking looks here, not acting ability.

But speaking of acting. I think that Dakota Johnson did a wonderful job with the comedic portions of the film. As far as the more dramatic scenes, she was a little difficult to believe. I hate using the word “stiff”, since it’s been used so much to describe her here, but that’s what I got. I have to give a little, considering this is her first starring role.

Okay, so Jamie Dornan. Well, Lord God Jesus, he was so beautiful to look at. I just didn’t get the command I needed from his Christian Grey. I thought he had some shining moments, but he seemed uncomfortable in some of the more racier scenes.

While their acting wasn’t my fav, I do think that as the series progresses, it will get better between them.

My bigger issues was the sequence of events in the film. I was very frustrated with the way they moved the scenes around. Ana and Christian don’t even have sex in Ana and Kate’s Seattle apartment until book #2, but not here. The “it was nice knowing me” scene, happened in Vancouver. And what was up with moving Kate and Ana, PRIOR to their graduation? That made no sense to me at all.

I know that for readers, the movie version will almost never be as good as the paper version, I get it. I wasn’t expecting an exact replica, but I also think that some things were important to keep authentic for the ones who haven’t read the book yet. For example:
From the very beginning, as the reader, you comprehend Christian’s desire to keep Ana safe. Even after she interviews him and is getting ready to leave, he is concerned with her driving in the rain, but that was left out of the movie. When she and Christian meet to discuss the contract, I was very disappointed that the negotiations took place the Grey House instead of the Heathman. Especially since the meal (in the book) was kind of significant, but in the movie it was glazed over. Anyway, in the book, when Christian walks Ana to her car after they negotiate, he flips about Wanda, again reinforcing his desire to keep Ana safe. In the movie, he walks her to her car and says nothing about Wanda. I was also disappointed with the way her visit to Georgia went. It could be I pictured it wrong when I read the book, but it didn’t pan out the way I felt the book portrayed it. I am looking forward to the second movie, even though it feels that it is forever away, hopefully with E.L. James’ husband taking over as the screenwriter, it will be a little more true to the book. Because let’s face it, Darker is loaded with intensity and I would like to see it play out that way on the big screen.

Raid (Unfinished Heroes Series, Book #3) by Kristen Ashley

BXTCHES Gotta Warn: This isn’t the usual “you must read the first two books before you read this one” speech. Yes, this is a series, but each book is really a stand alone that focuses on a particular couple. This book follows Hanna and Raid. If you read Creed, you know that while it visited Knight some, it really focused on the story of Creed and Sylvie. The same goes here. Knight is mentioned, and Anya, Creed, and Sylvie will visit, but only briefly. The only way that Raid connects to Knight (book #1) is, Knight has contracted Raid to find someone for him.

This book is told mainly through the POV of Hanna, there are a couple of instances where the POV shifts to Raid, but not too many. This story takes place in Willow, CO with Hanna being the towns “girl next door” and the great granddaughter of the town’s matriarch, Miss Mildred (whom I loved). She has had her sights on Raiden Miller since she was 6 years old. Raid is a former Marine and a current “underground” bounty hunter and his work has brought him back to the small town of Willow. The beginning of the story has Hanna almost stalkery towards Raid. She hangs out in the local diner (which happens to be owned by Raid’s sister) just hoping to catch his eye. The day she sees him front to front, making out with another girl, one who is her total opposite, she decides to give up and focus more on her. Months pass and the “new” Hanna finally catches the eye of one Raiden Miller. And so, their story begins.

The relationship between Hanna and Raid, starts out a little rocky. As with a lot of the female characters in KA’s books, she doesn’t necessarily deem herself worthy of Raid. But, I don’t think it’s because she thinks she is not pretty enough, she doesn’t really have any self esteem issues.  Her issue is, after seeing him making out with another girl and over hearing a phone conversation, that was taken out of context, she really just thinks that she isn’t his type. Once he establishes, in a very alpha male way, that she is indeed his type, their relationship takes off (rocket style).

KA does a really good job, as usual, writing the sex in this book. Hanna really discovers her “sexual side” with the help of Raid. All of the “Heroes” in this series seem to have a desire to “play” and I’m talking about the kind of play that uses safe words. It is not extreme, very light, but he is definitely bossy in the bedroom. There is not a lot of secondary characters in this book. There are some, her great grandmother for example. But the one thing I LOVE about reading Kristen Ashley, is her ability to really develop supporting characters and this series she really didn’t do that. I don’t know if it was intentional or not, but is was something that I wished there was a little more focus on. For example, Miss Mildred’s cat, Spot, seems to have more devotion than her best friend does. The books in this series aren’t as many pages as usual for KA, so that could be a reason.

But you should remember to take the medical advices vardenafil pharmacy and instructions before consuming the solution the consumption that follows an exemption of the medical advice may react adversely to develop decreased sexual desire, tender feeling in breast or impotency. Ones that contain Minoxidil are considered the best because of the low cost plus best quality. generic viagra 100mg There is some violence in this book, so be prepared. Nothing too drastic, but it is there. The only part of this book that made me give a frustrated sigh, is when Hanna first asks Raid about his Marine buddies. He really freaked out. I know it was something he didn’t like to talk about, but I felt as though his reaction and then her quickness to forgive him, made me cringe just a bit.

I don’t think I’m giving away any spoilers by saying that of course, Hanna and Raid get their HEA. Their journey to get there is a little rocky. I think that this is a goodread, not my favorite KA series, but she is one of my favorite authors, so usually, she can do no wrong. This series is a quick read, it is enjoyable, and the characters are lovable.

Even though a lot of KA’s series can be read as stand alones, and I usually advocate for reading the series in order to get the most enjoyment out of them, this is one book, I think could be read as a stand alone, without necessarily reading Knight and Creed firts. With Creed, I think that it was important to read Knight first, because their stories kinda intertwined, but this one is really a “by itself” kinda book. Enjoy.

Withstanding Me (Breakneck Series Book #2) by Crystal Spears

Withstanding Me (Breakneck Series, Book #1) by Crystal Spears

BXTCHES Gotta Warn: This is the second book of The Breakneck Series and if you have ever read a MC Series, then you know that mostly each book focuses on a new relationship (I said mostly, not always), but the entire story intertwines in each book. So, in order to read the story in the manner in which the author intended, please read series in order. Now, this BXTCH has warned.

So, I know that I wasn’t the biggest fan of the first book in this series (Seize Me), but after reading Withstanding Me, this series is starting to grow on me. Withstanding Me focuses mostly on the story of ZZ and Storm, while continuing the story of Winter and Braxxon.

ZZ and Storm have a mutual sexual attraction to one another. The issues: ZZ just wants sex and then he wants to be done. Storm, however is interested in a relationship, especially considering her past. She realizes that ZZ is not going to be able to offer her the relationship she not only needs, but deserves. When they both acknowledge this, they decide that a friendship would be best. But’s let’s detour for a second.

One of the things I absolutely loved about this book is, the characters that you came to know in Seize Me, play a part in this book as well, and not just with a line or two. You get to experience the wedding of Braxxon and Winter, and mourn with Pyro while he is working through his emotions following the death of Lana. You also get more backstory on Tatiana and Shadow (who, by the way will be the focus in book #3-YAY!) and we begin to get a peek at Sniper and Piper (which I suspect will be a future book). Another thing to love: the characters are written from not only the POV of Storm and ZZ, but also from the supporting characters. Ms. Spears is very talented at writing from the male perspective.

Now, back to Storm and ZZ. Going into Withstanding Me, there is a lot of stuff happening. It’s very dramatic and there is a lot of violence. However, if you are a fan of MC books, then I assume you are used to this. ZZ goes through a lot of personal drama in this book. He is trying to understand his feeling for Storm, while dealing with and 18 year old daughter who is hell bent at rebelling at every turn. He has to deal with personal loss and shocking revelations regarding his past. Storm is still trying to deal with the issues that brought her to the Breakneck MC in the first place. The thing that I love about Storm is, she knows what she wants and she is not afraid to go for it.

There is not really a cliffhanger in this book, but the story will continue in Shadowing Me. While it is not necessary to read Seize Me prior to reading this book, I highly recommend it. Like with any other series, the story usually continues from book to book, and reading them in order will only enhance the remainder of the series.

I do believe that this series gets better as she writes more of it, which is why I did decide to continue with the series even though the first book was not my fav. I do recommend it and I hope you enjoy it.

Seize Me (Breakneck Series, Book #1) by Crystal Spears

BXTCHES Gotta Warn: As much as I hate to, this review will contain spoilers. Sorry BXTCHES, I couldn’t find another way around it.

Let me start by saying that this is not on my list of favorite MC books and oddly enough, this is the second time that I have read this book. Now, I’ve read it twice because when, Withstanding Me (book #2) came out, and around the same time, I peeked at the cover for Shadowing Me (book #3), which I have no shame in saying, WHAT AN AWESOME F**KING COVER, I figured that if I wanted to enjoy those books more, I should reread book #1. This book is good, just not great. If this happens to be the first MC book that you have decided to read, then you may very well rate it a bit higher. But, this is not my first, and MC books are one of my favorite genres, so I have high expectations.

Quick Rundown: Winter is the daughter of the head of the Russian Mafia. She left that life behind after her dad shoots the love of her life in the head while she watches. So to say the least, she is already slightly messed up and a little “hard”. Leaving that life behind, she becomes an exotic dancer and dances under the name, Star. She is asked to dance for the president of the Breakneck MC and that is how she meets Braxxon. Further events after meeting the MC encourages the f**cked upness and makes her a little more ruthless (rightly so).

My main issue with the story up to this point, are the events that take place that involve Winter, seem to contradict her character traits that have been put in place. One example of this is when Braxxon requests that Winter dances for him privately, while she is blindfolded (this is after first meeting her). While the concept of this is certainly erotic, it just seems out of character for someone who had no interest in even attending this party, especially with someone she didn’t even know.

Here are where I had problems with the story (AGAIN, THIS WILL CONTAIN SOME SPOILERS):

Because Braxxon wants to claim Winter as “his”, he does what any man would do (sense the sarcasm) and of course, has her fired from her job. Not that that part is too crazy, this is a MC story after all, it’s just when she leaves her job (after discovering of her termination), she heads straight to the clubhouse and walks in on Braxxon with 3 girls, which is a little douchey, even for a MC story. Worse, is when he proceeds to kick the girls out, one of them puts up a little bit of an argument and he slaps her, which you don’t really see too much of in this genre, regardless of the violence. After witnessing this, Winter decides to give Braxxon a shot. Which for someone who has built up walls and had to become a little hard because of her past, she gave in a little too quickly for me.

Continuing, the second time that the club goes on lockdown, Winter gets kidnapped by a rival MC and is brutally raped. Be prepared, this part of the story will get graphic, but is necessary. She is both mentally and physically torn up, rightfully so, and is having a hard time since she can’t give Braxxon what he needs physically. She then gives him “permission” to find his relief/release with someone else, while he thinks this is crazy (so do I) you get the impression that he is not going to take her up on that offer. That is, until she pisses him off and he takes a girl and gives in. Even with that craziness, you can somewhat see both perspectives of that dilemma. Now, Pyro (the VP) gets shot, and Winter is just offering compassion (very innocent) while they are attempting to remove the bullet. Braxxon witnesses this and gets so angry that he takes a club whore (who happens to be friendly with Winter) behind the bar and insists on getting some oral happiness from her. This I have a problem with. I get what Ms. Spears is trying to do. She is trying to show that Braxxon loves Winter, even though he has yet to admit it, and he is having a difficult time working through feelings he’s unfamiliar with. I just believe she could have written it differently. An alpha male doesn’t need to be a dick to be loved by readers, just look at other MC alpha bad boys, and that much is clear.

Here is the good part:

I do think that Ms. Spears wrote the supporting characters very well. Which is why I’m looking forward to reading books #2 and #3. And as you could probably deduce, Braxxon and Winter do get their happy ending. So as the story does progress, you will begin to appreciate the love (once it is admitted) that they have for one another and Braxxon will in fact grow on you. He just has to breakthrough his emotions for that to happen. I know it seems as if I didn’t like this book at all, I did like it, I just had a few “character flaw” issues. I do recommend it, because I do think that the series improves with each book.
