There are many reasons why one would decide to take a vow of celibacy and devote their life to God, but for Tyler Bell (or Father Bell) his reasons involve his baby sister and making right a lot of wrongs that have been done within the Church. Having said all that, he does believe that he is doing his life work and his commitment belongs to the Lord. . .that is until Poppy Danforth comes along wanting to confess some sins.
Poppy comes from a very high class background. Lots of wealth and lots of familial expectations. She realizes that her life will never be her own unless she takes ownership of it. Even if that means cutting herself off entirely from her past (a.k.a. her family). . .and that is exactly what she does. Because of the path she heads down, she finds herself in Father Bell’s confessional and life for either of them will never be the same.
It’s important to know that this particular life path that Tyler has chosen is only about 3 years old, so while he has taken a vow of celibacy, he hasn’t always been celibate. When a story presents itself as a celibate priest working against his vows and the temptations of sex, we kinda got talk about it. Reading lots of romance novels you’re bound to come across a lot of sex and most of it is really good, Priest is scorching hot. I think part of the appeal comes from the taboo nature of what’s happening, but the toe curling portion of events comes from Sierra Simone and her very pornographic imagination, one that I’m pretty grateful for.
While we can discuss the taboo nature of the book all day, it’s important to point out that Priest is so much more than that. Sierra Simone did a really good job at addressing the conflict that was within Tyler Bell the man and Father Bell the priest and his need to find a way at reconciling the two. One of the main focuses of the book is Catholicism and even though a portion of the book revolves around the controversy that surrounds the Catholic Church, there was careful consideration in ensuring that Father Bell’s loyalty never wavered and that he never had anger towards God. So while he may be fucking on the alter and eating pussy on the church piano, don’t worry, he recognizes the sin and knows he needs to repent.
Everything about this book was beyond any expectation I had and while I think you’ll enjoy the ride, you need to understand that it does touch on some trigger subjects. . .sexual abuse and suicide to name a few. I think if you know what to expect going in, you won’t be shocked, you will however be shook. . . but in the best of ways.
I actually purchased this book in 2018 and it’s now 2 years later and I finally decided to dive in. Mainly because it was being talked about in a book group on social media. It was my first go at anything from Sierra Simone, I don’t think it’ll be my last.
