BXTCHES Gotta Warn: For those who may not have been following this story, the verdict in the New Hampshire Prep School rape case came in. Now, really I’ve only been reading about this story when updated information would come through on my Facebook feed. But, in case you have no idea what I’m even talking about, let me give you a rundown:

  1. At the time of the assault, the accuser was a 15 year old freshman, the accused was an 18 year old senior.
  2. There was semen and sperm found on the underwear of the accuser and some of the biological material found on the underwear matched the DNA of the accused. No evidence of sperm was found in the cervix of the accuser.
  3. This all takes place during “Senior Salute”, allegedly a tradition at the prestigious boarding school. According to different reports, during “Senior Salute”, seniors try to have sexual encounters with as many underclassman as possible prior to graduation.
  4. According to the testimony of the accuser, she willingly accompanied the accused to a machine room where they consensually kissed. It was when he began to grope her that she objected. He penetrated her with his fingers, then proceeded to rape her. She claims that while she did not kick and scream, she did say “no”.
  5. According to the testimony of the accused, there was no intercourse. They did remove their clothes (all but underwear), but while he went to put on a condom, he had a moment of clarity and realized that having intercourse with the young lady would be a bad idea.
  6. After the incident, there were back and forth messages between the two students that were friendly in nature. In fact, in one of the messages, the accuser asks the accused: “Did you use a condom?”, to which he replied: “Are you on the pill? I think you’re OK. I put it on halfway through”.  It should also be noted, that the accused did brag to friends about having sex with the 15 year and he also deleted 119 Facebook messages, including one that he claims he “pulled every trick in the book” to have sex with the girl. It was during his testimony that he admitted to lying to his friends regarding having sex with the young lady.

Obviously that is not every detail. There were a lot of charges being brought against the accused, but he was acquitted of the most serious, (3) counts of felony rape. Guilty verdicts were issued for the charges of: (3) counts of misdemeanor sexual assault, using a computer to lure a minor for sex and child endangerment. He faces prison time (sentencing is in October) and will have to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life and while it hasn’t been said yet, one can only assume that he is going to lose his full scholarship to Harvard. For more information regarding this story, click here.

Sexual Assault: It's Time to Educate www.bxtchesbeblogging.com

When I first read that he was acquitted of the felony rape charge, I was pissed. I may have even sworn a little (okay, a lot) out loud. My 16 year old daughter was with me and was curious about the case, so I filled her in. It was in that moment that I had a little bit of clarity. I went from being furious to trying to find my compassion for the accused, yes, I said the accused. But before you start going apeshit on me, hear me out. And no worries, my compassion was never lacking for the young girl.

So, I ask you: Where does the responsibility lie? Do we say that the boy should’ve known better? I mean, c’mon the girl was 15, shouldn’t any 18 year old know that a 15 year old is off limits? Or do we say that the girl went up to the attic knowing what was expected? She knew what “Senior Salute” was and everything that it entailed. Do we believe the defense? That everything was consensual and it was only when people found out that she got embarrassed and made up the story about rape. Only two people truly know what happened in that attic on that night and their stories are not exactly matching up.

So, my question now is this: When are we going to stand as a society and start demanding that sex education be taught differently? We are constantly thrusting the latest technology into the hands of our youth without consequence and without providing some sort of responsible education. We refuse to “sex educate” instead we insist on “abstinence only”, even though study after study shows that abstinence only does not work. I’m going to take a walk on a thin line and wonder this: maybe, just maybe, if we took the time to educate properly, then incidents such as the one above, doesn’t happen. Because one thing is for sure, what we are currently dishing out, is not working.

Let’s think out loud. I don’t know whether or not this young man forced himself onto a 15 year old girl and decided to rape her. But, for this argument, I’m going to give him the benefit of doubt. Let’s assume his story is the true story. How different does that night play out if just maybe he understood what the consequences would be for his actions. What if we began to educate our youth, in a real conversation on what happens when you engage in sexual activity online OR what happens when you engage in sexual activities with an underclassmen OR that no means no and even if your penis has penetrated her vagina and she then says NO, you abort your mission, because to continue would be rape. What if teens heard stories of how lives were ruined just because of one mistake that someone made at 18 years old. Do we even teach the age of consent? Does the accused still go through with that night? Do we really believe that he or anyone for that matter, would risk what looks like a very promising future for a quick orgasm? If he truly understood what the consequences of his action could be, does he make the same choices?

Now this is where you would probably expect me to look at the argument from the accusers POV. Well, this BXTCH is about to disappoint and here’s why. As a society we constantly insinuate that the female did something to provoke. It was somehow her fault. Doesn’t the defense in rape cases usually bring up the victims sexual history? Once a slut, right? Here’s the thing, she admits to willingly accompanying him to the attic, she admits to kissing him, it is when he begins to grope her (he did leave bruises on her breasts) that she begins to object. Even if her intentions were to have sex, isn’t she entitled to change her mind? My standpoint is that a female shouldn’t have to “prevent herself” from being raped, regardless of how far into the act they are.

Maybe I’m being too generous, but I don’t believe that this young man set out to intentionally hurt this girl or that he’s even a bad guy. In my gut, I think intercourse happened and I certainly don’t believe his version of “thinking it was a bad idea” once he put the condom on. He’s still a teenager with a raging hard on and the sole purpose of that night was to get laid. AND, he told people it happened, including the girl, but I also understand fear and his need to tell a lie. But what if that scenario became part of the dialogue. What if we informed young men that there may be times when you feel like your dick is going to explode and right when you’re ready to go to happy town, the young lady changes her mind and decides to close up shop. What on Earth do you do and what will the consequences be if you ignore her telling you “no”. Dads, are we teaching our young men that it’s okay to rub one out? And while you’re dick may be angry for not getting a piece, you’re ass is going to be thankful, because you’ve just kept it out of jail and out of a whole other set of problems.

We as parents and as a society have got to teach our young men that it is THEIR responsibility to not commit sexual assault. And before anyone gets all “what about the girls” on me, I do believe that our young ladies need to hold themselves to a certain standard, but really I don’t care if a female is having a train ran on her in front of the entire frat house and decides the next night that she doesn’t want to put out, her moral compass may be leading her wrong, but she is allowed to say NO. And when a young lady wakes up and is nude and can feel that something happened but can’t remember, as a society we respond with, “she should’ve been more careful” or “she’s the one who got trashed” or “she was all over him” and use that to justify any sort of assault, and now we are perpetuating the problem. If I decided to strip down to nothing (I won’t because it wouldn’t be pretty) and grind my “lady” all over some guys hard dick while shoving the “girls” in his face and right when he’s ready to take it further I say NO, that is my right. It certainly makes me a major bitch, but I don’t deserve to get raped for it. Check the news, there are constant reports on our college campuses regarding sexual assault and nothing is being done about it. We need to Billie Jean (as in The Legend Of) this moment and take a stand for our youth. Not just the ladies, but for these young men who are ruining their lives because they’re not being educated.

According to the White House Task Force to Protect Students from Sexual Assault: ONE IN FIVE college students will experience sexual assault during their college career. The ACLU estimates that 95% of campus rapes go unreported.

Ultimately the responsibility for sex education falls to the parents. In my home, we discuss it very openly, that doesn’t necessarily mean our children are going to make responsible decisions all of the time regarding sex, but they will make the decision with the correct knowledge. However, I do feel that the schools have a responsibility as well. They can teach what age of consent means, they can teach sexting laws, they can teach about child pornography and what it means to be in possession of it, they can teach about sex and social media, but most importantly, they can teach what the word “NO” means.

I’m going to leave you with this picture. This was started by a German teen in an effort to speak out against rape:

Okay (Something More Series, Book #2)

BXTCHES Gotta Warn: It should go without saying that it is of the utmost importance that you first read Normal before jumping onto the intense ride that is Okay, but just in case you’re not sure, now you are. Read Normal first.

I already knew going into this book that I was going to have to somewhat psyche myself up, emotionally that is. This book was everything I hoped, desired, somewhat feared, and wanted it to be. Okay will pick right up where Normal left off and will be told through the POV’s of Sam and Rory.

We all know how the first book ended, with Rory leaving Sam in Miami, rewinding their relationship back to “friend” status. Even though Sam doesn’t want to go back to being friends, he reluctantly agrees, knowing he will do whatever it takes to keep Rory in his life. Trying to somewhat get her life back to a familiar semblance, Rory continues to go through the motions. Still hanging out with her friends, going to lunch, tutoring with Sam, all the while knowing that she wants more with Sam, but feels that it is safer to keep him at a friends length.

Leaving Miami in the middle of the night, without so much as a goodbye to Sam, was a very difficult decision for Rory. But from her perspective and thought process, she feels that Sam had already put himself in danger because of Rory and they hadn’t even been a “them” for more than 48 hours. So she did what she needed to, to protect Sam and Sam’s future. Of course, this theory never occurs to Sam and he sees it as her not feeling the love for him the way she declared.

On top of everything that Rory is going through, Sam has decided to forgive Chelsea and actually gets a little frustrated with Rory when she is a bitch towards Chelsea. Rory being female and having that radar that all females have towards other females, knows that Chelsea is no where near over her feelings towards Sam, and while Rory knows that Chelsea is most likely up to something, she decides to go with the flow where Chelsea is concerned. And trust me when I say that the storyline that is Sam/Rory/Chelsea was a little shocking, I didn’t even see it coming until the last minute.

I’m not going to give too much away, because this book is just too beautiful to ruin with spoilers. However, I can tell you that we haven’t seen the last of Robin, he will have to answer for his actions in Miami. We will also see old relationships healed (I can’t digress further) and new friendships blossom. The main focus of this book is really the relationship between Rory and Sam. We will see lots unfold, some that will bring a smile to your face and others that might make a tear fall, but I think that the most important thing that can be derived from this book is this: True love knows no age. True love is worth fighting for, regardless of where it may leave you in the end. True love will withstand anything and come out stronger on the other side. True love truly knows its counterpart, its other half and it doesn’t matter if you’re 18 or 88, when you find it, you should most definitely hold on with everything you have.

I’m so glad I happen to run across Danielle Pearl. She brings a gift to the written word. I’ve said this before about another author and I don’t really throw out this compliment often, but putting words on a page and having them engross the reader in a manner where saying “just one more chapter” isn’t even realistic, and as the reader, being able to read a story and try to capture it in your imagination and knowing that no movie will ever compare to what this story has given you, is a true talent and gift and one that this author should be so proud of. But more importantly, this reader would like to give a huge thank you to Danielle Pearl, because I read a lot and true enough a lot of stories stay with me. But this one, this one touched me in a way that is very difficult to do. I read books or choose certain books because they appeal to me in whatever fashion I desire at the time. Very rarely am I looking to learn something. This book can and will teach many lessons. So THANK YOU, Danielle Pearl. I cannot wait to read more from that wonderful mind of yours, it is truly a gift.

Locke (Corps Security Series Book #5) by Harper Sloan

Locke (Corps Security Series, Book #5)

BXTCHES Gotta Warn: I want to assume that if you have made it to this book, then you have read the previous ones in this series. But, on the off chance that you haven’t, YOU NEED TO. These characters are very intertwined in every book, so to truly fall in love with them, you’re gonna have to just trust and go in order.

This book will tell the story of Maddox and Emmy, finally, right? It seems as if we’ve gotten teased with them from the very beginning. Well, their story is finally here and I must say, it did not go at all like I anticipated. I may have to actually have spoilers in this review, which I hate to do, but I feel is going to be necessary.

As with all of the other books in this series, this story is told through the POV of Emmy and Maddox. I’m just going to dive right in with this story because honestly, I don’t know any better way to get the job done. This was like reading two different books at the same time. The first of which was just weird, I will get to that in a sec. The second was what I wanted with Maddox and Emmy. Let’s just get the weird stuff over with.

SPOILER ALERT AHEAD. . . Now, in the duration of me reading and enjoying this series and even with the small glimpses into Emmy, I would have NEVER expected the past that came with her. Get ready, you may be shocked. Apparently, Emmy was destined to be the Princess of Syn. What is that you ask? Well, it is the strip club owned by her parents. And, it is also the strip club that she was groomed as a child to work at when she became of age, that’s not weird, that’s just plain ole’ creepy. Oh, it gets better. She was also “promised” to Shawn, the next in line to take over the strip club. So, when Emmy turned 21, she fulfilled her responsibility to her parents and started her “legacy” at Syn. She wasn’t too big on the idea of a future with Shawn, but that didn’t deter Shawn at all. He decided to take what he wanted and poor Emmy lost her virginity while being raped by Shawn. This is something that continued until Emmy was rescued by Coop and began her involvement with Corps Security. So, when Emmy takes off after Coop’s murder, where does she go? Well, back to Syn of course, to continue her future as a stripper. She also gets raped again by Shawn. This is where Maddox finds her. Oh, I almost forgot to tell you, her parents have NO issues with the fact that there daughter is continuously being raped.

Do you see where my problem is? This is a shit ton of baggage and there was not one bit of foreshadowing in the previous books that would have EVER, let me repeat EVER led me to think that this was the past that Emmy came from. Emmy never appeared to be someone that had this much following her around. Now, I really wouldn’t have had a huge issue with this if it wasn’t for the past of Maddox (I will get to that in a minute). But, when you add the two pasts together, it’s just too much for one book. I could have handled her being a stripper, I even could have handled her being a stripper at her parents strip club, but take that, along with the fact that her parents are ok with her being raped, well that is just too much. You ready for Maddox’s messed up past? Brace yourself.

This book will flashback to Maddox’s past before he became what he believes is damaged and also dig into his relationship with his mom and younger brother. Maddox comes from money, but his delivery into this world came to be because his mother had an affair with a member of her staff. Her husband left her and she of course blames Maddox for this. So, suffice it to say, she loathes Maddox, but adores her other son, Mason. Maddox doesn’t care for his mother or brother and before Maddox became the brooding soul he is, he was actually engaged to Mercedes, who he was in love with and wanted to share his entire life with. But true to form, like all the women who the Corps Security men have a past with, Mercedes is not who Maddox thinks she is. She’s not really crazy, but she is bitch who does a horrible number on Maddox’s heart. So, you read all of this and it’s a lot to take in, but it’s ok because it gives you some sort of understanding into who Maddox is. But then, Maddox has a accident while serving his country and I’ll be damned if his mother doesn’t show up at the hospital, in Germany, in front of the men from Corps Security just to tell him how worthless he is. Ok, so I can take the relationship he had with his mom and brother, and even what his fiance did to him. I think that his military accident is important to the story, so I’m good with that. However, I am not good with his mom showing up to the hospital or the fact that he lost 2 men in the accident and one of the wives of the men, wrote him a letter telling him it was his fault her husband died.

I feel that you can’t put all of these issues on the shoulder of one man, it was too much. I enjoy the fact that in every book there are issues each character deals with. But almost always, it’s balanced out. The issues that Greg and Melissa had, coincided, Dee had some serious baggage, but Beck didn’t, Asher was dealing with so much but Chelcie came from good and was able to transfer that to him. We get to Maddox and Emmy and I was literally like, “what the fuck am I reading?” I guess my biggest issue was the believability of Emmy’s story. If Emmy’s past was good, I would’ve been able to handle everything that came with Maddox, because in EVERY book leading up to this one, we knew something happened to Maddox, just not what, but jeez, give a girl a break. I thought my brain was going to explode.

Keep this solution and all different pharmaceuticals out of the compass of youngsters and far from pets. cheapest sildenafil is popular medicine of curing the erectile dysfunction of all kinds. You are advised to repeat massage http://icks.org/n/data/ijks/1483475739_add_file_3.pdf low cialis cost daily two times. So, that’s the first book. The second book was much better. And by second book, I mean Emmy finally coming back with Maddox and them working on whatever kept them from being together originally. For me, this is the story I wanted. From reading the other books, you know that Maddox wants Emmy, but feels he doesn’t deserve her. Remember the scene in Cooper, where everyone is at Asher and Chelcie’s house and Emmy finally confronts Maddox? Well, that was the wake-up call that Maddox needed. Shawn (creepy stripper dude) does show up again and leaves Emmy very damaged (once you read, you will see how overdone her past is), Maddox rescues her and everything else falls into place.

Obviously they get their HEA and for them two, it is definitely deserving. Emmy is going to help Maddox face his past, so that they can have the future they deserve. He does get his closure in dealing with his past and that was satisfying to read.

For goodness sakes, let’s talk about the sex. I think we all kind of assumed that sex between these two was going to be explosive. Their tension has been building forever, so one could only hope that when they came together (no pun intended), fireworks were going to be set off. Well, Harper Sloan did not disappoint on the sexual front. They first decide to relieve their tension shortly after Maddox rescues her from Syn. There is no shortage of flames during the sex between these two. I’ll just say, she likes to push his buttons and he like to be bossy, it works out for all in the end. I know I’ve said it before, but holy crap, Harper Sloan must have a sex life that is off the charts or an imagination that puts porn to shame, because she knows how to keep your eyes glued to the page and your mind curious with “I wonder if I can pull that off without pulling a muscle?”

All in all, I did enjoy this book, I was just overwhelmed with the amount of “past baggage” that these two carried with them. In the end, to see Maddox and Emmy get what they both deserved was worth reading through all of that crazy. And the good news? The kiddos from this series will be getting their own books and Cohen is up first. So, I cannot wait for that to come out. This is really a great series and one worthy of your time. Enjoy.

Normal (Something More Series, Book #1) by Danielle Pearl

BXTCHES Gotta Warn:It’s important to know that THIS BOOK CONTAINS VIOLENCE. If this sort of thing is an issue for you, please know that going in. Also, there is a pretty major cliffhanger, consider that when considering this read. Now, here we go.

I am sad to think that I may have never discovered this book, if it didn’t come across my Facebook feed. Well, that’s a little over dramatic, I would have eventually came across it, but who knows when?

This book is told through the POV of Aurora (“Rory”). The story begins with Rory’s move to New York with her mother after her mother and father divorce. It focuses on her need to “blend in” and not be seen. That’s easier said than done, once she has a panic attack outside of her calculus class and it is witnessed by no other than Sam (not only extremely attractive, but very popular as well). She catches his attention, he catches hers, and eventually a friendship forms.

The story flashes back to her “old” life in Florida, the one she has escaped. It is then that her past is slowly unfolded. From her life long friendship with Cam, to her dating the star quarterback. It touches on her lack of relationship with her father to building new friendships with girls (she has lived her life as a tomboy and mostly developed friendships with boys, namely, Cam). The flashbacks occur throughout the book, so it takes a while for the book to piece the puzzle that is her past trauma together. Although, it shouldn’t take you as long to figure it out as it takes for the book to unfold it.

You get to witness Rory grow a lot through her friendship with Sam. He helps her work through her triggers and he begins to be someone she can lean on. As the reader, it is quite obvious that Rory and Sam are attracted to one another, but for Rory and her past, it is very difficult for her to believe that someone would want her, even the broken parts.
Today, doctors of chiropractic should earn a degree and get their licenses in order to get their titles. try this cialis 20mg tablets Drug has an effective levitra purchase treatment time of 4 – 6 hours and some patients and GPs report longer effective times up to 12 hours. The flashbacks in this book are heartbreaking. It is very sad having to “witness” the events that take place with Rory, and read how helpless she truly is. She continues to see herself as someone who is broken and f*cked up, but as the reader, you can only see her as a true survivor.

It’s hard to review this book and not give too much away, but I will say this. This read truly captivated me from start to finish. The story moved at the right pace to allow the events to unfold as necessary. As I said earlier, this book contains a cliffhanger, but the story of Rory and Sam will continue in Okay. If you have the chance, I highly recommend this book. I cannot wait for their story to continue, and I hope that it contains some chapters with Sam’s POV.

***UPDATE: If you haven’t figured it out by now, Sam’s POV has been released and you can check it out in ReCap***
