Third Base (The Boys of Summer Series, Book #1)

BXTCHES Gotta Warn: Okay, so Third Base is tagged as a stand alone and since it is book #1 in this series there is no reason for me not to believe it. What I can tell you with certainty is this, Third Base DOES NOT end with a cliffhanger (YAY!) and there is a HEA.

I hope what I’m about to tell you makes you super excited (as it did me), Third Base is told ENTIRELY from the POV of Ethan. I love it when an entire book is told from the male perspective, switches it up some.

Ethan Davenport is the hot, young, third baseman for the Boston Renegades (really AKA. . .Boston Red Sox). He has the world really at his fingertips. He’s talented, rich, good looking, and can have any woman he wants. I mean, he is Boston’s most eligible bachelor after all. However, he has his beautiful eyes set on a young woman who happens to sit behind the visitors dugout every home game, actually he’s been watching her for about a year. Not really knowing how to go about meeting her, he bites the bullet and has an usher escort her to the player’s lounge.

Well, her name is Daisy and she is a journalism student at the University of Boston and the seat(s) that she sits in every home game just so happens to be her and her grandfather’s season tickets. Daisy is a lifelong Renegades fan. She has also had somewhat of a crappy life hand dealt to her. She lost her parents in a car accident when she was young and was left in the care of her grandparents. Having recently lost her grandmother, it’s now just her and her granddad, but because of his health, it’s just her attending the games.

While things are going great for Ethan, the one thorn in his side is the BoRe Blogger. Not only does the blogger post about the games, which are actually usually spot on, but there are also posts regarding the “gossip” of the team and this is where Ethan has his problems with the blogger. First, I should tell you that Ethan hasn’t always made the best decision when it comes to social media. He did tweet his address once, but he also doesn’t like the tabloid feel that the blogger puts out there. The GM of the team is requiring Ethan to attend media training at the University so he can acquire the skills he needs to speak to the media.

The relationship between Ethan and Daisy is somewhat rocky at best, at least in the beginning. Daisy is pretty closed off. Some of it has to do with her current situation. She is the caretaker for her grandfather and money is very tight, so that kind of plays into her shyness. She is also a virgin, which hinders her desire to initiate intimacy with Ethan (at first anyway). I think the biggest question mark for Daisy is the rumors regarding Ethan and his “player” ways. When it gets brought up, Daisy brings up the blog and in doing so, their first fight ensues.

It’s quite obvious Ethan is having feelings for Daisy, which is new territory for him. I mean, he has had a girlfriend, in fact, his high school girlfriend (Sarah) still lives in Seattle (his hometown) and is his booty call whenever he is in town. But, the feelings that he is having toward Daisy are different than the ones he had for Sarah, add to that the ups and downs he’s experiencing with their relationship, and his head is a mess. It doesn’t help that the Renegades aren’t playing too well and the BoRe blogger is constantly posting rumors surrounding the team.
This is also called the “non-proprietary name”.For example, sildenafil is the generic name of a medicine under the brand name of Himalaya Herbals as Confido. cialis stores As a result of this pressure, some of the men have issues in getting or maintaining a stiffer penile for a viagra tadalafil longer time of lovemaking session. discount levitra One can make use of this pill to enjoy the service at their doorstep. This way, the breakdown of cycle GMP does not take place, which in turn, further results in rocklike erections that viagra samples no prescription long last, really last.
This is really the gist of the story. The author does a really good job of developing the relationship between Daisy and Ethan. Ethan was really easy to fall for, especially since Third Base is his story. Even when you get frustrated with him, which is mainly because he’s being a little dramatic for the situation, you still find that soft spot. Daisy was a little more difficult to embrace. I sort of think that may have been the intention. She is definitely a closed off type of character, but once she opens up, it’s easy to see why one would fall for her. The only problem is, it takes the majority of the book for her to open up. One thing I did love about her was her ability to admit when she was in the wrong and step up and apologize. There is a secret that Daisy is harboring and it’s not too difficult to figure it out, but since it’s not revealed until the back half of the book, I can’t reveal it here. It will turn out to be a secret that could ruin Ethan and Daisy.

The supporting characters here are really well developed. My guess is subsequent books are going to surround Ethan’s teammates and I am certainly looking forward to that. I really enjoyed Ethan’s family as well, I though that they brought a realness to Ethan and I thought Sarah was going to be written as more of a villain, but she was very likable and someone really good for Ethan. Looking back on Third Base, it was really Ethan’s story. Not that Daisy wasn’t an important part of it, it’s just it was a story about Ethan and Daisy as well as Ethan and baseball and I loved that.

Daisy may be a virgin when the story begins, but she isn’t by the time the last page is read. The sex in Third Base was done really well. I didn’t think it was panty melting hot, but is was very passionate, has the right amount of dirtiness and enough to make your toes curl. So, what I’m trying to say is, you’re not gonna be disappointed.

This is a great start to a series. It certainly left me wanting for more from the Boston Renegades. I think it offered the right amount of angst with humor and the right amount of lust with love. It was a quick and light hearted read. This BXTCH certainly recommends.
