Mid-Life Love

I’m not real sure if you have the pleasure of reading a book by Whitney G, so let me be the one to say that if you haven’t, you are missing out on a really fabulous writer. I first read this book back in July 2013 and it was the first by this author that I read. I have since read several more by her and each time it is better than the last. Her ability to capture your imagination and not let go until the end is incredible. Now let’s talk about this sensational book.

In Mid-Life Love we are introduced to Claire Gracen and Jonathan Statham and this book will be told through both POV’s. Let’s kick this off with Claire.

Claire lives in San Francisco with her 16 year old twin daughters, Caroline and Ashley. She moved to the Bay area from Pittsburgh, 4 years previous, after discovering her husband (Ryan) and BFF (Amanda) were having an affair and Amanda was pregnant with Ryan’s child. Claire works as a marketing director at Statham Industries, which happens to be the number one software company in the country. She hates her job, is knocking on 40’s door, and after being divorced for 4 years, has had no luck in the dating department.

Jonathan is the CEO of Statham Industries and his start in life is anything but memorable. He grew up in the foster care system after his biological parents became not only meth abusers, but meth dealers as well. Because of this, and another life altering event, Jonathan and his sister, Hayley, were placed in separate foster homes. This situation wasn’t much better for Jonathan. The one positive that came from his foster family, was Corey. His foster brother and best friend. After dropping out of Harvard and with the mentorship of one of his professors, Jonathan started Statham Industries, which is now a multi-billion dollar corporation.

Claire catches the eye of Jonathan one night while attending separate events, just in the same location. He never gets the chance to meet her, however, his luck changes when he sees her the next day in a grocery store. She blows him off, but to her shock, he wonders in on a meeting while she is at work the next week.

Claire is going to try every possible maneuver to shake Jonathan off her scent. Her biggest worry is of course, their age difference. She is eleven years older than him. Now, this is only an issue for her.

This book is more than just two people getting to know one another. It is a journey of a woman, who even after 4 years, is having to learn to let go. I can’t imagine the difficulty of discovering your husband not only cheating on you, but with your best friend. The hit to your self esteem must be almost fatal, which for Claire, it was. Being desired by a much younger, extremely attractive man helped, but the progress was almost erased by the made up scenarios she kept telling herself.

Their relationship is not a ray of light to everyone. Claire’s best friends, Helen and Sandra, are 100% on board with the older woman/younger man action. However, there are others who are not only against this relationship, but go to extremes to keep it from progressing, and almost succeed.

I never, throughout this entire book, thought that the relationship between Claire and Jonathan was to make Claire “feel younger”. For me, I really wanted Claire to see her worth. I do think a part of her, just like I think it would be with any woman whose husband cheated on her, blamed herself. Not for the entirety of it, but I think that she put some of the blame on her shoulders, undeservingly. When she discovers Jonathan, she carries a lot of those insecurities with her, which is what leads her to doubt any longevity in their relationship.

The beauty of this book is, it isn’t just Claire who grows. The childhood that Jonathan comes from is no less than tragic. His mother has been in and out of rehab, all on his dime. I admired his desire to do right by his mother, despite the bitch she truly was. He attends therapy with her, encourages her to stay clean, he’s not very loving towards her, but one really wouldn’t expect him to be. Him being with Claire, allows him to experience some sense of normalcy, in different ways. For one, things that he didn’t experience as a child; family dinners, game nights, witnessing a normal parent/child relationship, birthdays, he is able to experience through Claire. And of course, as a billionaire, his normal is way different than the normal that Claire experiences, so he gets that version as well.

Would it really be a good review if we didn’t talk about the sex? I didn’t think so. I’ve read several books that involve an older divorcee woman hooking up with a younger man. In EVERY one of them, the sex is crazy hot. And, in every one of them, the woman NEVER had that kind of sexual chemistry with her husband. Now, it’s too easy to say the reason behind this, is because the guy is younger. I don’t buy that. Claire was a 40 year old woman who never had the joy of having a man go down on her. That’s not an age thing, that’s a “her husband is a jack ass” thing. Sexual chemistry knows no age, just what it wants. So, here is no different. The sex in this book, yeah, it’s juicy (all puns intended). It is written exceptionally well. Whitney G was able to write what every woman wants. Jonathan was dominating when it was warranted, talked dirty when Claire needed it and not to sound too terribly mushy, but was tender when the time was right. Super hot.

There isn’t many things about this book I didn’t enjoy, but there were a few. I would’ve liked to see more from Helen and Sandra. They were hilarious and the times that they made appearances in the book just made the read that much more extraordinary. Towards the end of the book, some events are going to take place that aren’t very pleasant. It is all going to come to a head at a conference. I’m not going to spoil it for you, but I did not like Claire here. While I get the authors need to write the scenes the way she did, personally, I didn’t enjoy seeing that side of Claire. I thought it went against her personality, which is most likely the point. Just preference wise, I didn’t enjoy it.

This is not the end of Claire and Jonathan’s story. It continues in Mid-Life Love: At Last. This is a great read and a wonderful start if you haven’t read Whitney G. yet.

Walking Disaster

I’m going to keep this review short and pretty simple. READ THIS BOOK!

You already know the story, well you do if you have read Beautiful Disaster. This one however is told through the POV of Travis. Now, you may be saying to yourself “what a waste of a read”, you could not be more wrong. One of the many reasons that I love this book is actually being able to get it through the perspective of Travis. There is so much happening in Beautiful Disaster, but you only know what Abby knows. When you get the other POV, you get to see the side of Travis when Abby’s not around and you get the opportunity to really understand his thought process more.

Yes, it is the same story, but boy oh boy it is so different. You’re only advantage is you already know how it ends. So, if you are sitting on the fence with this one, go ahead and jump on over and go for it. You will not be disappointed.

Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James

Fifty Shades of GreyFifty Shades of GreySynopsis TagFifty Shades of GreyBxtches Be Blogging Book ReviewsFifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades Series, Book #1)
Well, this seems to be the one that started the craze. I’ll admit, it started it for me as well. I have read this book multiple times (and I do mean multiple), but decided to go at again so I could write a review prior to the movie coming out. Do I think that one should read the book prior to the movie. Yes, I think that the movie is probably going to leave out things and the sex isn’t going to be as detailed. You are definitely going to get more from the book and I think that the movie is really going to be an enhancement to what we’ve already read.

Book #1 in the series will introduce you to Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey. The book is told through Ana’s POV and we are first introduced to Ana as she is preparing to interview Christian for the University’s newspaper. Her BFF Kate is actually the editor of the paper and the one who is supposed to be conducting the interview, but she has come down with the flu and needs to send Ana in her place. To say that Ana is a little intimated to be interviewing such an enigma, is an understatement. Once she arrives at his office, all of her fears come in loud and clear. Even though she is intimidated by Christian, she is also very much attracted to him.

Christian is intrigued by Ana the moment that she falls into his office, literally. For him, there is something about her that calls to his dominant side. Once the interview is concluded, Ana believes that she will never see Christian again and Christian can’t get Ana out of his head. So he does what he needs to in order to see her again and tracks her down at her place of employment. Ana is pretty naive, she doesn’t recognize his attraction to her for what it is. She doesn’t see the same beauty in herself that he sees. Eventually he invites her to coffee, just to later warn her away from him, which only confuses Ana more.

I don’t really want to go through every detail in the story, most likely you know most of it anyway, so let’s just hit the important parts. Not only is Ana naive, she is purely innocent. A virgin with very limited sexual experience. Not even masturbation. So when Christian invites her back to his apartment with the hopes of her becoming his next submissive, he is beyond flabbergasted when she reveals this tidbit of information. Flabbergasted, but happy to rid her of her virginity. There is a contract, that is very detailed of his expectations. Ana is very leery of signing the contract, but understands that in order to be with Christian she must be what Christian needs, which is a sub.

This first book is not my favorite out of the three. I enjoyed it very much, but it is a “getting to know you” type of book. It is more of Christian embracing ideas that NEVER interested him before and Ana really opening up her sexual side to not only benefit Christian, but herself as well. There is a lot of happenings in this book, but it is not difficult to keep up with it. I obviously glossed over or totally left out a lot of detail, but the main premise of the book is Christian wants Ana as his submissive and while Ana wants to be with Christian in a normal relationship, she realizes that they may never exist for her with Christian.

Here’s the thing, I know that a lot of people criticized this book. Some for the writing and other’s for the false representation of the BDSM lifestyle. As far as the writing. I enjoyed it. Now, I will admit that some of the dialogue seemed to be a bit stuffy. It’s hard to imagine people in their twenties speaking the way that Ana and Christian did at times, but not at all impossible. There were times that Ana is annoying, but I think it’s more of her naivety that’s annoying, more than it is her. As far as the lifestyle, I have no flippin’ clue if it’s accurate, and honestly, I don’t care. I didn’t intend for it to be a guide into the lifestyle. It was written to be intriguing, which it was. I don’t think that this book was written to change literature (although, I do think it changed something), it was written as pure entertainment and that it is.

So, let’s discuss what the book is really about: SEX. E.L. James did a fantastic job writing the sex scenes. There is A LOT of sex in this book. It is white hot and at times, jaw dropping in both good and shocking ways, there is a scene where he removes her tampon (which will not be in the movie), see jaw dropping. With all due respect to the BDSM’rs, Ms. James had to do some sort of research, because the scenes that she comes up with, especially those in the Red Room of Pain are very detailed and if they just came purely from her imagination, then she deserves some sort of an award. There’s a reason why babies were conceived upon their mom’s reading this book. BUT PLEASE DON’T REFER TO IT AS MOMMY PORN.

There are other characters introduced in this book that is important to the story line. There is Jose, who is a very good friend to Ana. He happens to be attracted to her and would like to explore the idea of a relationship with her, but she isn’t interested in him that way. Christian is not fond of him at all, which has a lot to do with the fact that he is an extremely jealous man, but also because he witnessed Jose forcefully kissing Ana once when she was quite drunk. Kate is Ana’s BFF and roommate. Kate comes from a very wealthy family and finds Christian to be creepy and often warns Ana to be careful around him. Kate begins to date Elliot, who happens to be Christian’s brother. Ray is Ana’s step-father, but in her eyes he is the man who raised her. Carla is her mother and she currently lives in Georgia. Christian’s parents are Grace and Carrick, who are thrilled that Christian has finally found someone. Taylor is the bodyguard/right hand man.

I do love this book, it’s just the next books are much more adventurous. So, if you are just tackling these books, go ahead and buy all three so you can go right into the next one. Trust me, once the way the first book ends, you are going to want to have the second book on hand. I am one who cannot wait for the movie, even though I was super excited when it was going to be Charlie Hunnam. I do hope that it does the book some justice, I know I will probably be disappointed in parts, but the trailers so far have left me wanting.

THE MOVIE. . .
I’m sure by now you have gone with the masses and have seen this movie. Well, what did you think? This was a movie I was looking so forward to, even though I suspected that I was going to be let down somewhat. So let’s discuss.
As far as looks, I think that Jamie Dornan looks the way I pictured Christian Grey to look (even if a little part of me is still longing for a Charlie Hunnam “Christian”). And even Dakota Johnson, I think that she filled out Ana the way I imagined when I read the book. I’m just talking looks here, not acting ability.

But speaking of acting. I think that Dakota Johnson did a wonderful job with the comedic portions of the film. As far as the more dramatic scenes, she was a little difficult to believe. I hate using the word “stiff”, since it’s been used so much to describe her here, but that’s what I got. I have to give a little, considering this is her first starring role.

Okay, so Jamie Dornan. Well, Lord God Jesus, he was so beautiful to look at. I just didn’t get the command I needed from his Christian Grey. I thought he had some shining moments, but he seemed uncomfortable in some of the more racier scenes.

While their acting wasn’t my fav, I do think that as the series progresses, it will get better between them.

My bigger issues was the sequence of events in the film. I was very frustrated with the way they moved the scenes around. Ana and Christian don’t even have sex in Ana and Kate’s Seattle apartment until book #2, but not here. The “it was nice knowing me” scene, happened in Vancouver. And what was up with moving Kate and Ana, PRIOR to their graduation? That made no sense to me at all.

I know that for readers, the movie version will almost never be as good as the paper version, I get it. I wasn’t expecting an exact replica, but I also think that some things were important to keep authentic for the ones who haven’t read the book yet. For example:
From the very beginning, as the reader, you comprehend Christian’s desire to keep Ana safe. Even after she interviews him and is getting ready to leave, he is concerned with her driving in the rain, but that was left out of the movie. When she and Christian meet to discuss the contract, I was very disappointed that the negotiations took place the Grey House instead of the Heathman. Especially since the meal (in the book) was kind of significant, but in the movie it was glazed over. Anyway, in the book, when Christian walks Ana to her car after they negotiate, he flips about Wanda, again reinforcing his desire to keep Ana safe. In the movie, he walks her to her car and says nothing about Wanda. I was also disappointed with the way her visit to Georgia went. It could be I pictured it wrong when I read the book, but it didn’t pan out the way I felt the book portrayed it. I am looking forward to the second movie, even though it feels that it is forever away, hopefully with E.L. James’ husband taking over as the screenwriter, it will be a little more true to the book. Because let’s face it, Darker is loaded with intensity and I would like to see it play out that way on the big screen.

39 & Holding by M.R. Joseph

39 & Holding

I came across this gem of a book while browsing Amazon, really looking for something new and different to read. Downloaded the sample, was pleased enough to go ahead and purchase. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. This book will be told through the POV of Greer.

We are going to meet Greer Walker, 39 year old, divorced mother of 2. After 14 years of marriage (20 years together in all) her husband not only decides that he is no longer in love with her, but he is in fact in love with a 25 year old bombshell. Not only in love with, but has carried on an affair with while still married to Greer (even having sex with the 25 year old in his martial bed). So, after having her heart and world crushed, she is now trying to figure out how to be single after 20 years.

Greer first lays her eyes on Nick Costa while sitting in traffic. They both happen to be listening to the same song when he looks over and offers Greer a chocolate donut. He eventually goes his way, she goes hers. Even though she doesn’t believe that she will ever see the “donut man” again, she did feel a spark and for her that meant that maybe she isn’t destined to become an old cat lady after all.

So much for her not ever laying eyes on the man with the chocolate donuts again. Greer is more than surprised when she finds herself face to face with him in the emergency room. Her daughter has broken her arm and who would’ve thought that the Orthopedic Surgeon assigned to repair the arm of her 6 year old is no other than, the man with the chocolate donuts himself or Dr. Nick Costa to be exact.

Now faced with follow-up visits, Greer realizes that she isn’t going to be able to avoid Dr. Costa anytime in the near future. So she does what any responsible woman would do, she makes sure that when she shows up for Sophia’s first appointment, that she is dressed to impress, well impress a particular doctor that is. After receiving the cold shoulder from the good doctor during the appointment, she is left even more confused, which compounds after she is told that she can’t see any other doctor, per Dr. Costa’s orders. Don’t worry, everything picks up after Nick has chocolate donuts delivered to Greer’s dance studio. She tries to deny them, but she will fail epically.

That hopefully gets you a good start to the relationship between Dr. Chocolate Donut and Greer. Here is what I adored about this book. First, Nick is 10 years younger than Greer, who happens to be knocking on the door of 40. I don’t think turning 40 is any different than turning 37, but for a woman, it’s just having to say “I’m 40” that causes a few heart palpitations, which is even more reason to love the fact that Nick is 29 (going on 30)and really really good looking. Also, this story really focused on Greer’s insecurities, which I thought was a good thing. Let me elaborate. Greer did play the “why me” card. The “why would someone as hot as Nick desire a single mom of 2” why me card. I think that her thought process on that had more to do with her husband leaving her for a 25 year old and what that did to her spirit. We learn during the course of the story how her husband made her feel about herself, especially in the latter years of their marriage. He wouldn’t go down on her because he saw her give birth, there are so many things I could say to that, or he would comment on how she need to focus more on her midsection. I mean this woman is a dancer, her body is fantastic. But after hearing her husband point out her worst flaws, the ones that she already beats herself up over, then move onto a 25 year old, that is going to do something to a woman’s self esteem. Which is another reason I love this story, it was real. And as douchey as her husband was, in all aspects, she continued to respect him. Well, respect him as much as one can when the asshole leaves her for someone 15 years younger. She never allowed what he did to the family unit get in the way of the kind of father he was, which was extraordinary. She was the bigger person.

She was so hung up on her body’s flaws, pooch and stretch marks, that she refused to get completely naked in front of Nick. When the two come head to head about it, it is a remarkable moment in the book. What the author did is remind the reader of the fact that it doesn’t matter the amount of friends you have that constantly remind you of how beautiful you are (Greer has plenty of those) or how great your professional life may be (Greer has that) or how fantastic your kids are (which Greer also has), but once your spirit has been crushed and your soul damaged, that it really takes someone who is one of a kind to put it back together again.

Greer’s insecurities speak to how a lot of women feel about themselves, especially after having children. This book is refreshing. Reading about a woman struggling to find her way back after a divorce that almost destroyed her was inspiring.

Oh, there is sex and it is hot. Nick really brings out the sexual side of Greer like her husband never did. It was written very erotically. Nick is somewhat dominant (I said somewhat) in the bedroom, which Greer has never experienced and quite enjoys. He is also a dirty talker, which is also new to Greer, which I find very sad. Every woman needs a good dirty talker in her bed. I think it would surprise a man of the things a woman would be willing to do based on a few dirty sentences coming out of their mouths. The only frustrating thing for me was this. During a lot of this book, but especially during the sexual parts of this book, we read about how Ryan (the ex) never made Greer feel the way Nick does. Sex was more of a scheduled event that happened, instead of hot, passionate, throw me up against a wall sex that Nick offered, and honestly that everyone desires. Greer would also talk about the sparks felt between her and Nick that she never felt with Ryan. But then she would use her marriage as her fall back, her reasoning for holding up progress in her relationship with Nick. I understand it to a degree, but it was obvious that what her and Nick had was way more than Ryan ever offered, I just wish she would have seen it more clear, earlier than she did.

This book has drama, humor, great sex, and great supporting characters. The author did a wonderful job with the depth of writing Greer’s friends and even her father and kiddos in this one. The only thing is I would’ve liked to have seen was friends of the great doctor. But, I suppose since it was told through Greer’s POV, it’s her friends we get. But no worries, they were fantastic.
Don’t judge this book by its cover. I wasn’t overly impressed with it either. Trust me, what is on the inside here is what matters. This book is so well written and doesn’t leave on a cliffhanger, so you will have your closure. I am very happily married and knocking on the 40 year old door, but this book still inspired me. If anything, to embrace who I am, 40 or not and know that if your husband can’t embrace you, battlescars and all, then FUCK HIM!

The Chronicles of Moxie (Chronicles of Moxie Series, Book #1)

I’m not really sure how I came across this book, but I will say that I am certainly glad I did. Now, There are several other titles from Ms. Heller, including a soon to be follow up to this book, that I cannot wait to read. I just hope that she adds much more to her resumè, because this book is brilliant.

This book is exactly what the title says: The Chronicles of Moxie and is told through the POV of Moxie Summers. Moxie is a kindergarten teacher in the city of Chicago and has no filter when it comes to speaking her mind. I’m going to be honest and tell you that what I love about this book is that our heroine Moxie, is a curvaceous size 16 and has caught the eye of Mr. Hotness. Now, I’m sure that there are some individuals who would believe that this set-up is unrealistic. Well to those individuals, I say “F” you.

Here is the situation. Moxie is the step-daughter to Martha (who really thinks that she is Moxie’s mother) and Martha is consistently setting Moxie up on dates so she can find “the one”. After another disaster, Moxie and her BFF Renee decide to hit the bar. Once Moxie is is good and wasted, she decides the topic she would like to discuss the most is hairy balls vs. non-hairy balls. And with this discussion comes an impromptu bar survey and while conducting this survey with a super hot guy she proceeds to vomit all over his shoes. Not a problem right? It is a complete stranger after all. But this complete stranger happens to be the father to Dillon, the new student in Moxie’s class.

Dillon, who is so adorable and super smart to boot, and his dad, Miles are new to the Chicago area. Tragedy hit their family hard and they are making a change for the better. From the very beginning you know that Miles is attracted to Moxie, not just the curves but the whole package. While Moxie can read the innuendos that he is sending out, she’s not too sure on how to take them. He is the father of a student and her fellow teacher/sworn enemy, Amber continues to insinuate that her and Miles have something going on and once you put some self-doubt into the head of a women, insecure thoughts will not slow down.

But it is always better to opt for this medication because of its icks.org prescription order viagra without low price and good quality so long as you choose the right pharmacy. It has been observed that erectile dysfunction acupuncture treatment does not cost much and comes with a proper license for selling prescription buy viagra sample medicines. Women should not get upset or disappointed, as natural female sexual enhancement can sort generic levitra online out all your problems, which you have with your partner. The sex scenes in this book were written really well. It takes some real “moxie” to sneak into a tent at a school wide camp-out and proceed to deliver an earth shattering orgasm. But for me, it was Miles and his wonderfully dirty mouth. He was always quick with some sort of sexual speak that had even Moxie wide-eyed. Overall, the sex (real or talk) was written very, very, well. Maybe not sheets on fire hot, but fan worthy.

This book has a lot of stuff happening. There’s the step-mother, a gay BFF, an arch nemesis in the form of a kindergarten Girl Scout. There’s Amber (her adult nemesis), a sex toy party and even more vomiting. It is really funny and told so fantastically. The supporting characters are very well written and developed. Here’s really the love behind this book. I think that when you can take a character like Moxie and develop her against everything that society says a leading woman should be and do it exceptionally well, you are truly gifted. I also think that it can’t be an easy decision to make your leading lady someone like Moxie. And to also develop her where she is so free-spirited and so sure in who she is for the most part. That really does a positive number on a readers self-esteem. So, applause to you Ms. Heller.

When I read a book, I always try to imagine the book being “live” whether on T.V. or a movie version. This is one of those books that I can certainly see come to life in a T.V. series (cable, of course). This is definitely worth the read and even a re-read. I don’t think you will be disappointed.

The Bet (The Bet Series, Book #1)

This is one of those books that was very refreshing. I enjoy a love story that involves drama or suspense and I really enjoy a book that has a lot of hot sex. But here’s the thing, this book doesn’t have any of that, but it didn’t need it. The drama in this book is pretty comedic, so I don’t really count it. And the storyline was so captivating, I forgot all about the hot sex.

This book will focus on the relationship of Kacey Jacobs and Jake Titus, as well as, Kacey and Travis Titus. It’s not any mènage à trois book, it’s just they are very confused about their relationships, don’t worry, it pans out. The story will be told through all three POV’s.

Kacey grew up with Jake and Travis Titus. Jake and Kacey grew up to be best friends, while Travis did nothing but torture Kacey up through high school. Of course, Kacey took this to mean that Travis hated her and she returned the feeling with gusto. They constantly pranked one another, nothing really off limits. Kacey’s infatuation laid with Jake. They attempted dating in high school, but found that they were better as friends. Then on one drunken college night, Kacey’s world changed. Her and Jake slept together for the first time and it is also the night that her parents were killed in a car accident. The friendship was tested when Jake walked out after sex without ever even calling Kacey.

Now, Kacey was not only close to Jake and Travis, but their parents and grandmother as well. Since the fateful night that changed the course of Kacey’s future, she has distanced herself from the entire Titus family and Grandma is fed up. Jake is currently the CEO of Titus Enterprises, making him a millionaire and everything that the title encompasses. His life of strippers, partying, and yes, prostitutes has got Grandma needing to lay down some ultimatums. She orders Jake to get Kacey home and Jake knows that his career is on the line unless he is able to convince Grandma and the board that his partying ways are over. His brilliant plan? Tell his family that him and Kacey are engaged. He is able to talk Kacey into this scheme by offering to pay off her school loans, as well as telling her that Grandma is close to death. So, he dangles a little money and a little guilt and reluctantly she agrees. It’s only for the weekend, how hard could it be?

Enter Travis Titus. He has had feelings for Kacey for as long as he’s been picking on her. The problem: she hates him. However, she hasn’t seen him in forever and is shocked once she lays eyes on his body. Once they are able to get over past hate, their limits will be tested. Kacey will get her HEA, I’m just gonna let you read to find out who she gets it with. Trust me when I say, that the journey getting there is fantastic.

The supporting characters in this book are awesome. You will fall absolutely in love with Grandma. She offers everything you wish for a grandmother and then some you wish she kept to herself. She was probably the funniest in the book. The chemistry between Kacey/Jake/Travis was so strong, you know who you want her to fall for, but you can’t help but feel for the other guy. This book was a very easy read, very hard to put down and before you know it, you’re done. Great job by Rachel Van Dyken.

Love and Lists (Chocoholics Series, Book #1) by Tara Sivec

Love and Lists (Chocoholics Series, Book #1)

BXTCHES Gotta Warn: This is a spinoff of the Chocolate Lovers Series, so it is an independent series, but the same characters that we fell in love with in that first series are back and the kiddos are now all grown up.  If you haven’t read any part of the Chocolate Lovers series, then I must ask, “Why the hell not?” and then say, GO READ IT! Again, it’s not that it is necessary, but you’re going to wish you did. Gavin was a very prominent character in that series, so it helps to know his story better.

Like I said this story will focus on Gavin and Charlotte and will be told through both POV’s. Gavin belongs to Claire and Carter, and Charlotte is the oldest of Liz and Jim. Gavin and Charlotte have known each other forever and have been in love with the other for almost as long. So why not just tell the other how they feel? Well, where is the fun in that? Once again, this book does not disappoint in comedy and is full of the laughs that we have come to love from this gang. There will be lists, fake boyfriends, Viagra, a psycho ex girlfriend, a very disturbing relationship between Tyler and Siri, and more, all in the name of love.

The book kicks off with Gavin trying to find a way to tell Charlotte that he is head over heels in love with her, at the time he is using Google to determine whether or not you can die from a serious case of blue balls. Tyler, the best friend, thinks that Gavin should make a list of the things he can do to show her his love. Tyler is Gavin’s Drew if you know what I mean. So the list they come up with is fantastic. Wouldn’t it have to be? This is how you will be introduced to grown-up Gavin.

There’s not really a whole lot to give away, but I don’t really want to spoil the fun of reading the hilarity that is the book. But there are some things that I can reveal. Gavin is 25 years old and actually works for Seduction and Snacks, which by now is a world wide corporation, so the girls didn’t do too shabby for themselves. He and Tyler have been best friends since freshmen year in college, which is also where Tyler falls in love with Claire, yes, Gavin’s mom. I know it sounds weird, but you should know by now that anything “weird” with this bunch will turn into crazy in a second and will have you laughing out loud. And don’t worry, there is still a lot of input from the original gang in this one.

One of the great and ironic happenings in this story is the sexual clumsiness that both Gavin and Charlotte possess. What’s even greater is the fact that they both seek out Drew and Jenny for advice. But let’s face it, what woman hasn’t used her period as a “shut up the man” method?

I think that it is safe to reveal that they will achieve their HEA, which is really poetic once you think about it. I mean c’mon, Claire and Liz are really tied together now. What I love about this book and all of books in these 2 series if I’m being honest, is that at the heart of the book is a love story. And I’m not only talking about the main characters of the book, I’m talking about all of the relationships that have been built in these series. And I know that I’m sounding like a broken record, because I have said all of this before, but the absolute best thing about reading her books, is the allowed escape. My family may look at me like I have lost my mind, but the way I see, they’re the ones missing out. I’m not real sure how Tara Sivec does it. But, I want her to keep doing whatever it is, because I will read it every time.

Troubles and Treats (Chocolate Lovers Series, Book #3) by Tara Sivec

Troubles and Treats (Chocolate Lovers Series, Book #3)

So, this is the third and final book in the Chocolate Lovers Series. Don’t be sad because the next series is  Chocoholics and it focuses on the kiddos, they are of course adults now. So, Troubles and Treats will focus on Drew and Jenny and truth be told, they could have had a series all to themselves, well, actually they all could have. Let’s get down to it.

Like the two previous books in this series, this one is told through the POV of Drew and Jenny. The focus of this book is the issue of a “sexual drought” in their bedroom. Which, if you’ve read the previous books you know is kind of shocking, considering who we’re talking about. I think that any woman can sympathize with Jenny. She has an infant as well as a toddler, there is no room for desire, but Drew is an overgrown child and he has no clue on the causes of Jenny lack of enthusiasm.

Since we are referring to Jenny, she isn’t one to take a direct hint. For example, in the very beginning of the book, Drew installs a sex swing in their bedroom. He sends Jenny out for a girls night and puts to kids to bed, lights candles, really sets the mood very well. When Jenny gets home, she goes upstairs and she thinks that the swing is for her to rock the baby in. And it just gets crazier from there.

While the book is certainly funny and will give anyone a good laugh. What I love about it was Drew and Jenny trying to get back to “their place” and Jenny just wanting Drew to see what it was that she needed. Any brand new mom knows what it is like to feel undesirable and would like for their husband to just “get it” without being instructed. So I know that Tara Sivec is going for the punch line and getting the laugh, which she succeeds at. I just appreciated the realness, however quirky it was, to the plot of this book. Women struggle with this daily and it was nice to see it while getting a laugh out of it as well.

Health products that are usually purchase by the greater number of individuals are sildenafil prescription weight loss, beauty and male enhancement products. Everyone you love is back, plus the addition of Drew’s father who is a P.I. and Drew uses him to follow Jenny and what occurs is laugh out loud funny. We will also meet Jackson, Drew and Jenny’s new neighbor and a life saver for Jenny.

Comedy is rampant in this book. Jenny is her daughters soccer coach (let that soak in), there is also the vibrator races and the Newlywed Game. They all have children now and the interaction with the kiddos is spectacular. I have to say that after reading all 3 books in this series and seeing how the adults are with the kids, I hope that this is how Tara Sivec raises her children, because you cannot get better than that. I actually think that I can take some parenting tips from these books (that’s not even a joke).

I feel like I should write more, but I just don’t know what there is to say. READ THIS FUCKING BOOK!! Hopefully that will do it. I’ve already read the next series and it is just as fantastic as this one.

My goal when I sit down to really get into a book is the same as when I go to the movies. I just want to escape, not in a bad way, just leave reality for a little bit. She allows that with her books. Altogether, I think that I have read 9 of her books and she gives you the escape with every one of them. Now, if you are offended easily, then this may not be the series for you. But, I gotta say once again, this series is fucking fantastic and if you have not read Tara Sivec yet, you are really missing out.

Trashed (Stripped Series, Book #2) by Jasinda Wilder

Trashed (Stripped Series, Book #2)

I have actually really been anticipating this book and must say, was not disappointed at all. This book will focus on the relationship between Des Ross and Adam Trenton. The catch: Adam is a hot Hollywood star and Des is a college student making her way by picking up trash. The story is told through both POV’s. So, let’s not waste anymore time.

The story kicks off on Mackinac Island, Michigan. I must be honest and say that I have never heard of this place. But after visiting Google, I’ve now discovered that I am a little bit in love. It is very picturesque, which the ironic thing about this is, Des is a janitor here for the summer. Adam is on Mackinac Island for a gala fundraiser. She actually meets Adam when he notices her and leaves his carriage tour to meet her. She is very skeptical of his intentions and one of the things that I loved about her was she didn’t fall all over herself because of his “celebrityship” (I’m most certain that is not a word, but I think you understand). She does agree to dinner with him, but very soon into the date her past is catching up with her and she finds herself running.

Let’s talk about her past a little. Des grew up in the foster care system and to say she had it rough, would be putting it lightly. She is caught in a catch 22, because of how she grew up, she longs for feeling a part of a home and family, but because of how she grew up, she doesn’t trust easily, especially men. So for her, while she dreams about belonging, she realizes that it will probably only ever be a dream. Enter Adam.

While Adam is obviously attracted to Des, there something else he feels almost immediately, he just doesn’t know what it is, but he knows that he wants to pursue it. However, he is only on the island for 2 days, something she also realizes, so in her eyes what can really come of it. Well, because of a storm, Adams’s date for the fundraiser cancels and there is only one person he wants to fill the spot: Des. She agrees, not really realizing what she is agreeing to, but she is quickly exposed to the paparazzi and photographers at the event. She makes it through the fundraiser in one piece, barely, and they find themselves back in Adam’s hotel room. I should probably go ahead and tell you that Des is a virgin, a gift she is willing to give up to Adam. After spending the night together, intimately, it’s time for Adam to leave. At this point he really wants to pursue things further with Des, but he is unsure what she wants. And it’s not that she doesn’t want it, it’s just she is so unsure of the future, she’s not willing to risk it.

So at this point, they separate, months pass before they reconnect and a lot happens in between (you will have to read that for yourself). They’re going to get their HEA, but it is fun reading the process of getting there.

A man should consume this medication just before 30 minutes of medicine’s intake. brand levitra in usa Let them be levitra prescription cost who they are and how many university degrees they’ve got you are making a mistake. Americans spent in 2006 more than 100 billion dollars on purchasing goods cheap viagra without prescription over at this drugstore via Internet. However, the use of this Kamagra medicine does not in any way enhance or hamper cheap 25mg viagra a person’s sperm count. I didn’t really have many issues with this book. I mean, Des was a little frustrating at times, but once you discover her past, everything is really understood. A lot of times when books revolve around a celebrity falling for a “normal” person, as the reader, you’re sorta in disbelief when the “normal” person just doesn’t fall at the feet of the celebrity, but I appreciate the way this story was written. I think she was in awe of him, but she didn’t allow it to cloud herself from seeing the true person behind the celebrity. I do think though, if you are going to have an issue with this book, this is going to be it. I think some readers are going to question the believability of a celebrity falling for an average everyday person and fall hard. For me it would me more unbelievable for her to go all “fangirl” on him and he still want her. My one issue, she gives him her virginity, but he doesn’t realize it. I found that to be a little hard to believe. No blood whatsoever? Maybe it can happen, it was just hard for me to believe.

Wanna discuss the sex? For me, it was just warm. It wasn’t super scorching. Des does become somewhat sex crazed once they establish a relationship and it was written somewhat believable, it was just not very sizzling, I hate to use that word, but I’m just trying to translate what I’m thinking. I’ll just say, I spent time thinking of the logistics of their positions while reading the scenes and I’m sure that’s not what the author is hoping to achieve.

There wasn’t a whole lot to develop in terms of the supporting characters. There are supporting characters, there’s just not a lot of focus on them. The one’s that had some focus in the book are developed enough for you to enjoy the relationship they have with the main characters.

All in all, this is a good read. I enjoyed it. It was a quick read, which I really appreciate. I thought that the storyline was captivating enough to make it hard to put the book down. I recommend and I hope you enjoy.
