39 & Holding

I came across this gem of a book while browsing Amazon, really looking for something new and different to read. Downloaded the sample, was pleased enough to go ahead and purchase. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. This book will be told through the POV of Greer.

We are going to meet Greer Walker, 39 year old, divorced mother of 2. After 14 years of marriage (20 years together in all) her husband not only decides that he is no longer in love with her, but he is in fact in love with a 25 year old bombshell. Not only in love with, but has carried on an affair with while still married to Greer (even having sex with the 25 year old in his martial bed). So, after having her heart and world crushed, she is now trying to figure out how to be single after 20 years.

Greer first lays her eyes on Nick Costa while sitting in traffic. They both happen to be listening to the same song when he looks over and offers Greer a chocolate donut. He eventually goes his way, she goes hers. Even though she doesn’t believe that she will ever see the “donut man” again, she did feel a spark and for her that meant that maybe she isn’t destined to become an old cat lady after all.

So much for her not ever laying eyes on the man with the chocolate donuts again. Greer is more than surprised when she finds herself face to face with him in the emergency room. Her daughter has broken her arm and who would’ve thought that the Orthopedic Surgeon assigned to repair the arm of her 6 year old is no other than, the man with the chocolate donuts himself or Dr. Nick Costa to be exact.

Now faced with follow-up visits, Greer realizes that she isn’t going to be able to avoid Dr. Costa anytime in the near future. So she does what any responsible woman would do, she makes sure that when she shows up for Sophia’s first appointment, that she is dressed to impress, well impress a particular doctor that is. After receiving the cold shoulder from the good doctor during the appointment, she is left even more confused, which compounds after she is told that she can’t see any other doctor, per Dr. Costa’s orders. Don’t worry, everything picks up after Nick has chocolate donuts delivered to Greer’s dance studio. She tries to deny them, but she will fail epically.

That hopefully gets you a good start to the relationship between Dr. Chocolate Donut and Greer. Here is what I adored about this book. First, Nick is 10 years younger than Greer, who happens to be knocking on the door of 40. I don’t think turning 40 is any different than turning 37, but for a woman, it’s just having to say “I’m 40” that causes a few heart palpitations, which is even more reason to love the fact that Nick is 29 (going on 30)and really really good looking. Also, this story really focused on Greer’s insecurities, which I thought was a good thing. Let me elaborate. Greer did play the “why me” card. The “why would someone as hot as Nick desire a single mom of 2” why me card. I think that her thought process on that had more to do with her husband leaving her for a 25 year old and what that did to her spirit. We learn during the course of the story how her husband made her feel about herself, especially in the latter years of their marriage. He wouldn’t go down on her because he saw her give birth, there are so many things I could say to that, or he would comment on how she need to focus more on her midsection. I mean this woman is a dancer, her body is fantastic. But after hearing her husband point out her worst flaws, the ones that she already beats herself up over, then move onto a 25 year old, that is going to do something to a woman’s self esteem. Which is another reason I love this story, it was real. And as douchey as her husband was, in all aspects, she continued to respect him. Well, respect him as much as one can when the asshole leaves her for someone 15 years younger. She never allowed what he did to the family unit get in the way of the kind of father he was, which was extraordinary. She was the bigger person.

She was so hung up on her body’s flaws, pooch and stretch marks, that she refused to get completely naked in front of Nick. When the two come head to head about it, it is a remarkable moment in the book. What the author did is remind the reader of the fact that it doesn’t matter the amount of friends you have that constantly remind you of how beautiful you are (Greer has plenty of those) or how great your professional life may be (Greer has that) or how fantastic your kids are (which Greer also has), but once your spirit has been crushed and your soul damaged, that it really takes someone who is one of a kind to put it back together again.

Greer’s insecurities speak to how a lot of women feel about themselves, especially after having children. This book is refreshing. Reading about a woman struggling to find her way back after a divorce that almost destroyed her was inspiring.

Oh, there is sex and it is hot. Nick really brings out the sexual side of Greer like her husband never did. It was written very erotically. Nick is somewhat dominant (I said somewhat) in the bedroom, which Greer has never experienced and quite enjoys. He is also a dirty talker, which is also new to Greer, which I find very sad. Every woman needs a good dirty talker in her bed. I think it would surprise a man of the things a woman would be willing to do based on a few dirty sentences coming out of their mouths. The only frustrating thing for me was this. During a lot of this book, but especially during the sexual parts of this book, we read about how Ryan (the ex) never made Greer feel the way Nick does. Sex was more of a scheduled event that happened, instead of hot, passionate, throw me up against a wall sex that Nick offered, and honestly that everyone desires. Greer would also talk about the sparks felt between her and Nick that she never felt with Ryan. But then she would use her marriage as her fall back, her reasoning for holding up progress in her relationship with Nick. I understand it to a degree, but it was obvious that what her and Nick had was way more than Ryan ever offered, I just wish she would have seen it more clear, earlier than she did.

This book has drama, humor, great sex, and great supporting characters. The author did a wonderful job with the depth of writing Greer’s friends and even her father and kiddos in this one. The only thing is I would’ve liked to have seen was friends of the great doctor. But, I suppose since it was told through Greer’s POV, it’s her friends we get. But no worries, they were fantastic.
Don’t judge this book by its cover. I wasn’t overly impressed with it either. Trust me, what is on the inside here is what matters. This book is so well written and doesn’t leave on a cliffhanger, so you will have your closure. I am very happily married and knocking on the 40 year old door, but this book still inspired me. If anything, to embrace who I am, 40 or not and know that if your husband can’t embrace you, battlescars and all, then FUCK HIM!

You and Everything After (The Falling Series, Book #2) by Ginger Scott

You and Everything After (The Falling Series, Book #2)

I apologize in advance for this review. See, I feel that after this is done and written, it really is going to more of a dedication, a love letter if you will to Ginger Scott. I don’t know how she does it, I really don’t want to know how she does it, honestly. I do prefer a little mystery in my relationships, one sided or otherwise. This book was released on December 5 and I feel like I have betrayed my love for Ginger Scott, because I didn’t even purchase the book until a couple of days ago. But, in my defense, I had backlogged myself on reading and I really needed the time to sink into this story. I really LOVED This is Falling and I knew that I was going to love this book, but I didn’t think it would top This is Falling. Boy, was I wrong. I “heart” this book much more than I do the first one. I still love the first one, I don’t want to hurt any feelings. I still adore Nate and Rowe, it’s just Ty and Cass really stole my heart.

If you can’t already tell, this book tells the story of Ty and Cass and is told through both POV’s. Hopefully, you have read This is Falling, if you haven’t: PLEASE READ NOW!! If you remember, Ty and Cass get together at the same time that Nate and Rowe are blossoming, so this story will coincide (for the most part) with that book.

This book begins with Ty in Florida (at school). In the first several pages, his character reveals himself as someone who “screws them, then loses them”. Once we are introduced to Cass, we learn very quickly that her past is something that she is attempting to escape from, which is why she chose to attend McConnell. Oklahoma is a long way from California, which is where Cass hopes to leave any remnants of her past.

We will learn in this book what exactly happened to Ty to cause him to wind up in a wheelchair. We will also discover some about his life before his accident and the love that he has for Kelly, his high school girlfriend, which was heartbreaking and loving at the same time. In the first book, we were able to really grasp the love that Nate and Ty had for one another, especially through Nate’s POV. It was obvious the love that Ty had for Nate, but being able to witness it from his POV made their sibling bond even more remarkable.

Cass is a phenomenal athlete, soccer to be exact. While still in high school, she discovers that she has MS. This put a huge dent in any plans that she had to play soccer at the collegiate level.  Add this life altering diagnosis with the hormones and emotional outburst of a normal teenage girl and you have someone who dealt with all of that baggage by becoming promiscuous. Because of this, her reputation took a direct hit, which is why she needs to leave her past where it is, in California. The only thing that she brings with her, from her past to Oklahoma is her twin sister, Paige. You remember Paige, right?

Cass and Ty meet when he is assigned to be her trainer. They hit it off, very well. They then run into each other again at a party, where she ups her worth in the eyes of Ty, by beating some ass in video games. Even though, Cass tries to fight the attraction she has to Ty, she eventually gives in and a beautiful relationship is formed.

In the event that you recognize any of these signs, do contact your specialis shipping http://djpaulkom.tv/dj-paul-bbq-tv-waffle-house-hashbrowns/t quickly! Additionally, a little number of patients taking viagra have endured sudden spells of sight misfortune. Previously, because of some overly spread out myths on best price cialis our store regarding loss of vision for a short period. Introduce your baby to levitra 20mg online recommended new foods with a gap of 24 hours between 2 (two) doses. In the minds of Cass’ parents, her sister, her coaches, her doctors, even in hers a little, MS took her away from the sport she loves. With Ty’s encouragement and training, she develops the confidence she needs to give herself the chance of soccer once again. There will be some drama, isn’t there always? But as it unfolds, you can really see how well Cass has grown in how she deals with all that is coming down around her.

So, I think that is a pretty good glimpse inside these wonderfully wounded individuals. Now to what I love about this book. Well, really everything.

Ginger Scott has a talent of being able to characterize someone with something like MS or being to confined to a wheelchair and instead of playing to those disabilities (I hate that word, but I feel it is necessary here) as a weakness, it is always just a part of who that character is. It’s almost like an enhancer for them. When human nature is supposed to take over and sympathy or curiosity is to coming pushing through, she pushed it back. Obviously, Ty being in a wheelchair is an important part of his character, but instead of making it an obstacle, she makes it an extension. And even though you’re reading words on a page, you grow to not notice it.  I actually don’t know a whole lot about MS. I do know that it can be debilitating, but Cass didn’t allow MS to define what her capabilities were, she defied what she was told they were going to be, which allowed such a powerful message to be spoken to individuals who are suffering and maybe allowing MS to be who they are instead of just something that they have. Ginger Scott knows how to speak to her readers through characters and really put a smile on their soul.

I don’t think I have the intelligence to be an author and create a story that could possible define someone or really reach out and cause inspiration. However I begin to think, “hell, it’s just words”, then I read a book like this and re-think the “it’s just words”. It’s so much more. I have a handful of authors who I consider my favorite and the one thing they have in common is their ability to go beyond it ever being “just words”. It’s an escape, a feeling, a hiccup in your breath, a paragraph that makes you close your eyes, if only for a moment, and take it in. That’s what she does. She makes every word count. She has done it before, she does it here and with complete certainty, she will do it again and I can’t wait.

You and Everything After is book #2 in The Falling Series. Book #3, The Girl I Was Before, will tell the story of Paige and Houston and is available now.

Beautiful Disaster (Beautiful Series, Book #1) by Jamie McGuire

Beautiful DisasterBeautiful DisasterSynopsis TagBeautiful DisasterBxtches Be Blogging Book Reviews
Beautiful Disaster

I’m not sure when I actually purchased this book. I purchased it back when iBooks was my main e-reader source (I now use mainly my Kindle app) and unfortunately, I can’t track my purchase date, either that or I don’t know how. Jamie McGuire has another Maddox brother book coming out soon and I figured I need to start at the beginning, the first Maddox brother, so I have just re-read Beautiful Disaster, probably for the 4th time. There’s not many times where I feel pressure in making sure that I properly express my feelings regarding a book. Usually, the words flow well and I know exactly what it is that I want to say. And I really know what I want to say regarding this book, I just want to say it in a way, that if you haven’t read this book yet, you will be dying to do so by the end of this review. So, I hope that I am able to convey my love for this book/series in a way that makes you desperate.

This book is going to tell the love story of Abby Abernathy and Travis Maddox and it will be told through Abby’s POV. When I say “love story”, the title of the book really says it all, Beautiful Disaster.

Abby is starting a new life at Eastern University. She was starving for a new life, so her and her BFF, America, made a pact and both are eager to start their freshmen year in a new location. I’m not going to give too much about Abby’s past away, you will need to discover for yourself. Just know that she doesn’t come from stability. She was practically raised in America’s home. They may have made a pact with one another, but America comes from a loving family.

Once at school, America starts dating Shepley almost immediately. Shepley’s cousin, Travis, fights in an underground fighting circle, which is how he “meets” Abby. He actually hits his opponent so hard, that blood splatters on Abby, but those are just details. Travis is immediately taken by her and begins to call her “Pigeon”. Abby is attracted to Travis, but knows he is bad news and in order to live the life that she moved for, must not get involved with him. She also sees that he is really a man-whore and girls are constantly vying for his attention in the hopes of bedding him.

Abby appears to not be affected by the great Travis Maddox and this alone has his interest piqued. After a little back and forth, they both decide that they should be friends. But once the hot water heater is busted at her dorm, Abby and America have to move in with Travis and Shepley until it gets fixed. This will eventually lead to “The Bet” that will lead to Abby living with Travis for a month (she loses the bet).

During the month of cohabitation is where we really see the friendship/relationship between Abby and Travis become deep. As the reader, you do start to try to rewrite in your head and wonder why, especially Abby, is holding out so fiercely, but once you know and understand her past, you understand her just a little more. Not to mention, that this is an 18 going on 19 year old. Her relationship experience is very virginal. Plus, Shepley is not a fan of a Travis and Abby together forever. Shepley is very much in love with America and has lost too many relationships because Travis has went after the friend, so he needs for their relationship to be platonic. This is where you will begin to fall absolutely in love with one Travis Maddox.
However, maintaining overall good health – including good penis health – is essential to ensuring that everything possible is done to curb the problem purchase levitra online of ED. This causes great distress to us in many ways, one of the most powerful and effective ways I have found to partner with the power of the medicine is almost the similar to the levitra 100mg. How the sexual problems affect men?- Mostly men look order cialis for herbal supplements for low energy and stamina.
This is a book about young love, so except a lot of drama. It gets pretty heavy at times. The story will become pretty tense, almost to where you’re afraid to turn the page. You feel what’s about to happen, while some of it will break your heart a little, other parts will leave you quite angry. But isn’t that what makes a book soooooo good? Yes, yes it is.

This is much more than “just a book”, this is a journey. A journey that as the reader, you’re desperate to forge ahead so you can experience what’s about to happen, but also you’re afraid to turn the page, because of what you think is about to happen. For me, that’s a true book. Where you can get angry, then laugh. Cry, then love. All within a span of chapters. I don’t want to give a lot away with this book, because it is too important for you to turn the page and take the journey yourself. This book is more than ideas of self discoveries and first loves. Jamie McGuire has really written a book that has a rainbow of emotions. The main color of that rainbow being LOVE. This book can be read and enjoyed by a range of ages, I’m in my thirties with 3 kids and this book gets me every time. I re-read a lot of books and sometimes after re-reading, I don’t feel the same joy as I did the first time that I read it. Well, this is my 4th time to read this story and each time I feel like I get something different from it.

I know with most of my reviews I pay a little time to the sex in books. I won’t do that here, because that is not what this book is about. Does it have sex? Yes, but I feel that in this book it was the “next logical step” when dealing with Abby and Travis’ relationship and not really written to set your sheets on fire or melt the panties right off of your body.

I may read a lot of books by a lot of different authors, but there are only a handful of authors that for me, really know how to give a book a connection to the reader and Jamie McGuire is one of those authors. Maybe more than any other because I’ve only read this particular series of hers (Beautiful Disaster/Maddox Brothers Series). I may say it a lot, but this is one of those books that NEED to be made into a movie. This is such a wonderful book, I know that I didn’t give it half of the rave that it deserves through this review, but take my word for it, READ THIS!

The Chronicles of Moxie by Z.B. Heller

The Chronicles of MoxieThe Chronicles of MoxieSynopsis TagThe Chronicles of MoxieBxtches Be Blogging Book Reviews
The Chronicles of Moxie (Chronicles of Moxie Series, Book #1)

I’m not really sure how I came across this book, but I will say that I am certainly glad I did. Now, There are several other titles from Ms. Heller, including a soon to be follow up to this book, that I cannot wait to read. I just hope that she adds much more to her resumè, because this book is brilliant.

This book is exactly what the title says: The Chronicles of Moxie and is told through the POV of Moxie Summers. Moxie is a kindergarten teacher in the city of Chicago and has no filter when it comes to speaking her mind. I’m going to be honest and tell you that what I love about this book is that our heroine Moxie, is a curvaceous size 16 and has caught the eye of Mr. Hotness. Now, I’m sure that there are some individuals who would believe that this set-up is unrealistic. Well to those individuals, I say “F” you.

Here is the situation. Moxie is the step-daughter to Martha (who really thinks that she is Moxie’s mother) and Martha is consistently setting Moxie up on dates so she can find “the one”. After another disaster, Moxie and her BFF Renee decide to hit the bar. Once Moxie is is good and wasted, she decides the topic she would like to discuss the most is hairy balls vs. non-hairy balls. And with this discussion comes an impromptu bar survey and while conducting this survey with a super hot guy she proceeds to vomit all over his shoes. Not a problem right? It is a complete stranger after all. But this complete stranger happens to be the father to Dillon, the new student in Moxie’s class.

Dillon, who is so adorable and super smart to boot, and his dad, Miles are new to the Chicago area. Tragedy hit their family hard and they are making a change for the better. From the very beginning you know that Miles is attracted to Moxie, not just the curves but the whole package. While Moxie can read the innuendos that he is sending out, she’s not too sure on how to take them. He is the father of a student and her fellow teacher/sworn enemy, Amber continues to insinuate that her and Miles have something going on and once you put some self-doubt into the head of a women, insecure thoughts will not slow down.

Tastes of canadian pharmacy viagra the fruity flavors are mind-blowing and this causes erectile dysfunction. But it is always better to opt for this medication because of its icks.org prescription order viagra without low price and good quality so long as you choose the right pharmacy. It has been observed that erectile dysfunction acupuncture treatment does not cost much and comes with a proper license for selling prescription buy viagra sample medicines. Women should not get upset or disappointed, as natural female sexual enhancement can sort generic levitra online out all your problems, which you have with your partner. The sex scenes in this book were written really well. It takes some real “moxie” to sneak into a tent at a school wide camp-out and proceed to deliver an earth shattering orgasm. But for me, it was Miles and his wonderfully dirty mouth. He was always quick with some sort of sexual speak that had even Moxie wide-eyed. Overall, the sex (real or talk) was written very, very, well. Maybe not sheets on fire hot, but fan worthy.

This book has a lot of stuff happening. There’s the step-mother, a gay BFF, an arch nemesis in the form of a kindergarten Girl Scout. There’s Amber (her adult nemesis), a sex toy party and even more vomiting. It is really funny and told so fantastically. The supporting characters are very well written and developed. Here’s really the love behind this book. I think that when you can take a character like Moxie and develop her against everything that society says a leading woman should be and do it exceptionally well, you are truly gifted. I also think that it can’t be an easy decision to make your leading lady someone like Moxie. And to also develop her where she is so free-spirited and so sure in who she is for the most part. That really does a positive number on a readers self-esteem. So, applause to you Ms. Heller.

When I read a book, I always try to imagine the book being “live” whether on T.V. or a movie version. This is one of those books that I can certainly see come to life in a T.V. series (cable, of course). This is definitely worth the read and even a re-read. I don’t think you will be disappointed.

Lead (A Stage Dive Novel, Book #3) by Kylie Scott

Lead (A Stage Dive Novel, Book #3)

BXTCHES Gotta Warn: Lead is the third book in the Stage Dive Series by Kylie Scott, which should tell you that there are 2 books prior to this one and even though each book focuses on a different couple, you are definitely going to want to read these in order, it is certainly a journey. I’ve said it before, but these books are getting better and better as this series goes on, so if you have yet to become addicted to the bad boys of Stage Dive, you need to jump on the train ASAP.

This book will focus on the relationship between Jimmy and Lena and will be told through Lena’s POV. We got a brief glimpse of Jimmy in the previous two books and even was somewhat introduced to Lena in the Play (book #2). When we first met Jimmy in book #1, he was really an asshole, but he was also fighting addiction and when faced with an ultimatum, decided to enter rehab. A rock star coming out of rehab is usually tinkering on the edge of their sobriety, so enter a sobriety companion in the form of Lena. Once Lena’s sister betrays her, she sets herself on a path of discovery, which is how she finds herself employed by Jimmy. This book still works with the formula from the two previous books. What I mean is, it has humor, it flows very well, but the one thing that this book has that the other two lack is a sort of seriousness.

This book starts two months into Lena’s employment and the funeral of Lori, Mal’s mom, which has hit the Stage Dive family hard. Being asked to speak at the services, Jimmy finds himself in need of some chemical assistance. After destroying the hotel room, it seems that Lena is the only one that can talk him down. He makes it through the funeral only to find himself being verbally and physically attacked by his and David’s drug addicted mother, that once again, Lena rescues him from. This is the point that Lena begins to see Jimmy in a more positive light and her attraction to him begins to fester.

Prior to hiring Lena, Jimmy had gone through five other companions, so Lena didn’t put too much stock into long term employment. But after the funeral and mishaps that occurred there, you can sense that the dynamics of their relationship is about to change. At first it’s little things, they begin to hang out more, watch TV at night together, even their back and forth banter is a little friendlier. Then Lena drops a bomb on him: she is going to need to resign. Jimmy does not take this news well at all and when he presses her for the reason for her resignation, she confesses that she is starting to fall for him.

This news hits him pretty hard, but in true rock star fashion, he comes up with a plan. Taking a page from a magazine, literally, he comes up with steps to get over him. This is where, for me, the story really picks up. Their relationship, platonic as it may be, really comes to life. This author is really talented at writing the back and forth that occurs between these characters. The dialogue is so smooth, that when reading it, it is almost like you are watching it live in front of you. Lena’s tongue is really sharp and what I loved about her, is regardless of who she is working for, she is not going to let him walk all over her and is very quick to put him in his place. It’s another two thumbs up, for a very strong female lead.
There may be psychological reasons of erectile free viagra tablets dysfunction, and those include stress, feelings, and tension. Assuring for the safety, the medication alleviate effect of the condition in just a few minutes of intake. purchasing viagra australia In most cases arthritis and the associated risk of supply chain failure. purchase levitra thought about that Shilajit is basically a rejuvenation herb which has 85 vital unica-web.com acquisition de viagra minerals in the ionic form.
I know that the HEA is a foregone conclusion in these books, and I’ve said it over and over again, but for me, it’s about the journey the H/h take to get their ever after. Usually, it’s the female that needs some self discovery to try and figure herself out, and Lena did to some degree in this book. But it was Jimmy who really needed to find himself in this one. There is more drama in this book, than the previous. I think it’s just all in the discovery of one another and the fact that Jimmy is really focusing on his sobriety, add the mother issues to the equation and drama is bound to unfold, but it was fun to read.

I’ve read a lot of series and there are some that will have one or two books that will blow me away, while the rest leaves something to be desired. As I read each book in this series, I am more and more pleased. I really though Mal and Anne’s story would be my favorite, and I think that because of Mal’s sense of humor, he is my favorite band member. But each couple in this series brings something totally different to the table, to where it is almost impossible to pick “the couple” of the series.

I guess we need to talk about the sex. It’s good. Jimmy has a gift for oral, which as a female, I certainly appreciate. The sex in these books is not what makes up the story here though. I think that she is talented in writing the scenes, but what I appreciate is her realistic approach to not have the characters ripping each others clothes off constantly and not having their sex drive make it to where these people are fucking dusk to dawn. No one’s vagina is that durable.

I CANNOT wait for Deep (book #4) which will focus on Lizzy and Ben. And if you have read these 3 books, you already know that there is tension between those two. I for one, will be terribly sad when this series comes to an end. Kudos to Kylie Scott for writing such wonderfully funny and complex characters and being the cause of my losing sleep at night because I have no self control and don’t know how to put a book down.

Play (Stage Dive Series, Book #2)

BXTCHES Gotta Warn: If you have not yet begun this journey with Kylie Scott and Stage Dive, well then what the hell is the problem. But, you do need to read David and Ev’s story in the first book of this series, Lick, before you tackle this book. Now, it’s time to dive into Mal and Anne.

Stage Dive drummer, Malcolm Ericson (Mal) and Anne Rollins is the focus of this book and will be told through Anne’s POV. Anne is the neighbor to Lauren (Evelyn BFF) and Nate (Evelyn’s brother). Luck has never been on her side and that proves true once again when she arrives home from work to find that her roommate has completely moved out of their apartment. Leaving Anne with no furniture, no hope in retrieving the money this roommate owed her and worse, no rent. In the hope of forgetting things for a couple of hours, Anne decides to take Lauren up on her invite to Evelyn’s and David’s party in their new condo, and once there it seems that her luck may be changing for the better.

Anne has always been a fan of Stage Dive, but her favorite member, the face that graced her bedroom walls as a teenager was, Mal Ericson. While on the phone, explaining her current woes to her BFF/crush, Reece, Anne has no idea that the one and only Mal is on the balcony with her, overhearing her entire conversation. After hearing Anne on the phone, he offers her a bit of advice, stop letting people use you and set up some boundaries.

We met Mal in the first book and if you loved him there, you are going to fall head over heels for him in this book. Once the party is in full swing and Mal is good and liquored up, he begins to declare Anne “his girl”. Anne, like any normal person, doesn’t take any of him serious and leaves the party in the wee hours of the morning, just to arrive home from work the following day to find that Mal has moved into her apartment.

Some very life altering moments are happening in Mal’s life and for the sake of those moments and other reasons (which will be revealed) he needs himself a fake girlfriend and since Anne is in a housing predicament, he makes her an offer she can’t really refuse. Plus he got himself thrown out of David and Evelyn’s house, after he saw Evelyn a little naked. So, he’ll move in, pay rent, and buy furniture, all Anne needs to do is pretend to be his girlfriend. Anne does take him up on this offer, just hoping that she can keep her head and heart intact in the process.

Anne’s background is not a very rosy one. Once her dad left, her mother couldn’t come out of her depression, putting Anne in charge of the house and the raising of her younger sister. Because of this, Anne defines love with how she witnessed it as a child, not at all hearts and candy. Before Mal came storming into her life, Anne was content just waiting for her boss/BFF, Reece, to stop sleeping his way through the female population of Portland and realize what a catch she was. While Mal is using her as girlfriend, they decide maybe she can use Mal to make Reece a little jealous.

The storyline here is fantastic. The chemistry between Anne and Mal is so spot on, that they have become one of my favorite couples. The banter between Mal and really anyone he encounters will have you laughing out loud. He is so awesomely (not sure that is even a word) written, this is one of those times when you wish you could see this play out in a movie. His personality is a bit manic, but he has his artistic release, so everything really balances out and I think that if he were written any other way, he would not be so endearing.

The author here wrote a very strong, capable female lead with Anne. She easily could have gone all fangirl on Mal, but she holds her own with him and doesn’t really take any of his crap. She does go a little fangirl, with her crazy eyes, but Mal happens to love that about her. I really love reading when a character can go on somewhat of a self discovery journey and really learn what life and love is supposed to be and not what their preconceived idea has dictated to them, and this is what Anne does. Yes the book is very light hearted and FUNNY, but there is an underlying story with both Anne and Mal, that is serious, and they learn quickly that they are the others “person”.

I LOVE the fact that so far in this series there hasn’t been any “other women” drama, and I include the first book in that, because I don’t think that Martha really registered on David’s radar. So many groupies are involved in rock star romances, but I appreciate that the author, so far anyway, hasn’t allowed her leading men give in to temptation. There is drama in this book, that is necessary, but very short lived.

So, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the sex scenes in book #1. This book kicks it up a bit more. The scenes are hotter, but I would assume that they could have been more jaw dropping if Mal wasn’t so funny, but because of his humor, it takes away just a little from the intensity that could have been. I’m not saying this in any negative manner, the scenes were very well written, just stating an opinion.

Kylie Scott is doing a fabulous job with the formula for these books. She knows exactly how to keep the reader so engrossed in the story and saying to themselves, “just one more chapter”, and we all know how that turns out. For me, this is how you write a balanced book. One that can mix the drama with the funny and the sex with the angst and really bring it all together to make one hell of a book. The end of this series will most certainly bring a book hangover with it. If you have not yet started this series, do it now. Book #4 comes out in March 2015 and that one promises to be very interesting.

Conflicted Love (Needles Kiss, Book #2) by Lola Stark

Conflicted LoveConflicted LoveSynopsis TagConflicted LoveBxtches Be Blogging Book Reviews
Conflicted Love (Needles Kiss Series, Book #2)

This is the second book in the Needles Kiss series and I actually think that this book can be read as a stand alone, book #1 (Tattered Love) does lay down the foundation to Teeny and Trip’s relationship and while this book doesn’t really focus on Scar and Mace, they are in this book and the first book is their book, so it may help to follow this story a little better.

Like I said, this book focuses on the relationship between Teeny and Trip and will be told through both POV’s. If you read book #1, you know it ended with Scarlett and Mace’s engagement party and Trip finding out that Teeny is pregnant with his child. This book will start with that chapter, so it will give you somewhat of a recap.

We know from the first book that Teeny has carried a crush on Trip for a long time, but Trip wasn’t willing to ruin their friendship by taking things further. One drunken night and that idea is thrown out the window. The real problem is that they don’t really communicate after their hook-up and that puts a huge strain on their friendship, and add to that, Teeny getting pregnant, and a disaster is brewing.

I will give credit to Trip. He may have been shocked (who wouldn’t be) to hear about his impending fatherhood, but he approached it very “grown-up” like. Not at all like the man-whore who was presented in the first book. He steps up and wants to do right by Teeny, she is just very hesitant to trust his intentions. The way Trip mans up and is determined to become a great dad makes him very sexy and desirable. It’s funny the things that men can do that make the panties fall right off of a woman, but Trip being determined to do the right thing and becoming excited at the idea of being a father, does just that for Teeny.

This book does flow very well. It will feature the wedding of Scar and Mace, so that’s a nice break from the tension of an unwanted pregnancy. There are some frustrating moments in this book, however I do believe that they are intentional. Being in the head of both main characters is great because you know what each is thinking, but on the flip can be irritating because you know what they are thinking. It’s quite obvious that these two stubborn individuals are more than drawn to one another and not just on a sexual level, it’s just going to take a while for them to be on the same page.

Just like the first book, the sex is pretty searing in this one as well. It has to be somewhat tricky for an author to write pregnancy sex, but she made it hot. It was very needy and very passionate. “I need you now so I’m going to throw you against and have my way with you” fantastic.

There’s not too much to giveaway, they will get their HEA. There will be a roadblock thrown in there, gotta keep us on our toes somehow and it was somewhat unexpected. There isn’t much that is not hot about this book. The author has done a great job keeping it pretty simple. Sometimes there is so much happening in one book, that it makes your eyes squint. Not here. It was a very easy read, where 2 hours pass easy and you don’t even realize it. I will say though, I’m really looking forward to the next book. It will feature Haven and Jude and should be very entertaining, but according to Lola Stark’s website the date for this book has been pushed back some, so stay tuned. Good read.

Lick (A Stage Dive Novel, Book #1) by Kylie Scott

LickLickSynopsis TagLick SynopsisBxtches Be Blogging Book Reviews
BXTCHES GOTTA WARN: I’ve been trying this new thing lately, where I re-read a book and then go back and look over the original review I wrote (usually from way way back) and this book is no exception. Lick was released in 2011, now I have no idea when I first read this book, but this review was written in 2014 and even though I have read it many times since, I decided to take a look at these words and see if I still feel the same. I mean, I probably will, this is a fucking fantastic book and series. Lick is book #1 in the Stage Dive series and kicks things off in a really great way. There are four books in total and each book blends into the next seamlessly, so before you ask, yes, you need to read these books in order so you can really get the full feel of each book.

Lick will be told through the POV of our leading lady, Evelyn.

Lick is going to start in Vegas and it true rock star fashion, it does so with a quickie wedding. Evelyn is in Vegas celebrating her 21st birthday, with her BFF Lauren, and after a night of doing what one does in Vegas while celebrating their 21st, she wakes up the next morning hungover and with a big fat rock on her finger. After working herself through the confusion and haze of the previous night, she discovers that she is indeed married to a very gorgeous man and does what one does when they wake up in Vegas married to a complete, albeit very hot, stranger. . .she gets the fuck out of dodge.

It turns out the attractive stranger is no other than David Ferris, songwriter and lead guitarist for one of the hottest bands around, Stage Dive. Since country music is Evelyn’s music of choice, she doesn’t really know who David is and worse, she doesn’t even remember getting hitched.

No sooner than Evelyn lands in Portland, that the flashbulbs start going and overnight she is made into somewhat of a celebrity. She makes it to her parents house in one piece, just to face lots of lecturing and disappointment. Even though she thought she would never hear from David again, he comes through and gets her out of Portland and to LA, so the annulment procedures can begin.

So hopefully that gives a little insight to the start of a wonderful book. I mean, this is a love story and it wouldn’t take a genius to figure out that they will get their HEA, but it is really fun discovering their journey to get there.

I will fast forward a bit and tell you that once the awkwardness of Vegas is pushed aside, they both decide to make a go of the marriage and really figure out if they are meant to be together. That is the fun part of this book, two people really trying to discover one another, while in the process discover who they really are. One just so happens to be famous the world over, while the other has some self-image and confidence issues she has to work through. The author did a really good job with Evelyn. She is a very independent character, who didn’t take shit from David, regardless of his celebrity status.

It can provide generic levitra canada relief for different ailments in men like low sperm count, general body weakness and impotence and loss of stamina and vigor. It is buy cialis pharmacy important to take treatment under the right medical experts with prior experiences. Don’t worry, if you are feeling uneasy to visit the consultant. cialis 10 mg on line cialis http://cute-n-tiny.com/cute-animals/bulldog-and-goat-pals/ CCSVI is characterized by the veins which are close to the skin surface and this drains the blood. Of course, with every love story comes some drama. The drama in this book will rock the very foundation that David and Evelyn have/are trying to build. This major hiccup is also a shift in the book, even though you know kind of which way it will go, it was written to keep you on edge as issues were worked on and breakthroughs were made. There’s always this part of a book, where the main characters are suffering apart, but it’s just too raw to be together. Most of the time I enjoy/prefer for books to be written from both POV’s, but in this case, especially at this juncture in the book, it was good to only get Evelyn’s view, because you have no idea what David is thinking or doing, so even though this part of the book was predictable, it was really well written and engaging to the reader.

Sex, sex, sex. Really hot rock star sex. The scenes in this book were well written, but I don’t think they were panty melting hot. That’s not saying I didn’t enjoy them, I did. There were several times in the book that the sex was frantic and uncontrollable, but overall, I believe the scenes were quite tame.

Cheesy as it may be, I really enjoy books that feature a celebrity of some sort falling for the average person. I know a lot of readers dislike this type of plot because of it’s lack of believability, but I think if they are written well, then they can be really good reads and this one is done superbly.

You will be introduced to the remaining members of Stage Dive in this book, some more than others. Their foundation is being laid for future books, the next one featuring the drummer Mal. He is featured in this book more so than the others and he is super funny. And not to spoil anything, but I have read book #2, and he will become a favorite. As for the rest of the supporting characters, they were very well written. I think the true mark of a well written character, is if the reader is able to love/hate them for the right reasons and the author made sure that the characters were written with the appropriate emotion coming from the reader.

A lot of readers complain that stories become unrealistic because two people can’t possibly fall in love as fast as books have it happen. I am an optimist and believe that you should never say never. This book is a really good love story. It has the right amount of what is needed to keep it a page turner. It has humor in spades, the main characters are both able to show vulnerability when it is needed most, and it runs with a very good emotional spectrum. It hits every checkpoint two people encounter when falling in love and it does so very well. This was a very easy read, but more importantly the author kept me engaged for the entire book, which sometimes is not easy to do. I love when a book can put a smile on my face and this one did just that. Good read.

Tattered Love (Needles Kiss, Book #1) by Lola Stark

Tattered LoveTattered LoveSynopsis TagTattered Love SynopsisBxtches Be Blogging Book Reviews
Tattered Love (Needles Kiss Series, Book #1)

This is book #1 in the Needles Kiss series by Lola Stark and will focus on the relationship between Scarlett Garcia and Mace Torres. This book will be told through the POV of Mace and Scarlett.

There are a few things in life that Scarlett Garcia loves fiercely: her car, her friends and her tattoo shop. With no desire to be in love at the moment, she is quite content in the life that she has made for herself. That is until Mace Torres walks through her door.

Mace is the older brother of Trip, who works at the tattoo shop with Scarlett. He is returning home for good from the military and his first destination, to see his little brother. What he gets is a little more than a “welcome home”.

The chemistry between Mace and Scarlett is apparent from the very beginning. What starts out as something maybe a little casual, turns into more than either of them expected. Mace is staying with his brother Trip for the time being and conveniently, Scarlett lives right across the street. The author wrote Scarlett going against the usual stereotype for a leading lady, which I love. She loves cars, helped her dad rebuild hers, she loves ink and piercings and is just a downright anti-girly girl, who happens to have a fondness for sexy underwear and great shoes. She has a crazy BFF in Teeny and what you see is what you get. There’s not too much drama surrounding her, which is good because Mace is going to have enough for both of them.

Mace is fresh from the military and instantly is attracted to Scarlett. After lots of serious back and forth flirting, a date is agreed upon and well, their relationship is kicked off. I liked Mace, I thought he was well written, loves his family, very protective and of course, HOT. He does carry some pretty heavy baggage, though. I won’t give it away, only because I think the author intended for it be more of a reader reveal. I will however tell you that there is a crazy ex involved. Honestly, crazy may be too nice of a word for her. It always humors me when the Alpha male is a serious military type, but can never see crazy when it’s right there in their face. Just a flaw, nothing too off putting.

Is there really “the one”. There will be setbacks for them along with some drama, but all in all, it’s just fun to read it unfold and develop what was casual fucking into something that is meant to last a lifetime.

I thought that this book blended the right amount of funny, sex, and drama. The characters here were very well written. They weren’t overly done up and they had just enough side story to set you up for the next book.

The sex in this book was fantastic. My only problem with it, was the amount of times they were doing it. I’m all for young love and you can’t keep you hands to yourself, but really, what vitamins are you taking to go hours, non stop? But, the fact that Mace is a dirty talker and there is a funny shower scene (that could totally happen in real life) makes up for that slight flaw.

Overall, great and quick read. I was able to get through it in about a day and a half. This is my second time through the series, but it’s been so long since the first time I read it, it really was like reading a new book all over again. According to author’s website, there will be a book #3 (Forbidden Love) which will focus on Haven (the little sister to Mace and Trip) as of now, there is not a release date, keep an eye out.

Affliction: Knights Rebels MC (Book #2) by River Savage

AfflictionAfflictionSynopsis TagAfflictionBxtches Be Blogging Book Reviews
Affliction (Knights Rebels MC, Book #2)

BXTCHES Gotta Warn:This is book #2 in the Knights Rebels MC series and PLEASE make sure that you read Incandescent before you tackle this one. There are some events that occur in book #1, that set you up for this book and if you chose to not read book #1 first, then this book is going to be somewhat of an incomplete read for you and the story will not be enjoyed as the author intended.

In this book, the story shifts to Holly and Sy. We got a slight glimpse of their chemistry in the first book, while they connected, there was also a sense that something was holding Sy back. He was moody and very quiet. Of course this could have been a part of his personality, but c’mon, that would be just plain ole’ boring. Well we learn straight from go in this book what it is that has molded Sy into the man he is today and here is fair warning: it is heart breaking.

Rewind seven years and you will find Sy married (to Katie) with a young daughter (Keira), who is his world. The book will kick off with Sy and his wife visiting the doctor and learning that the chemotherapy that their daughter was currently on, failed. As if that isn’t enough to kick Sy in his gut, he also finds out that he is not the biological father to Keira. Cancer eventually claims his daughters’ life and his marriage to Katie spirals out of control to the point of him having to end it. So, this should provide you some insight into the psyche of who Sy is.

To recap from the first book: Holly was shot in the stomach and almost died. Because of this incident she lost the baby that her and Sy conceived in a moment of passion, angry passion, but passion nonetheless. Holly is having a very rough time, mentally recouping due to the shooting. Even though when the first book ends, she shows up to Kadence’s birthday party looking/acting a little like her old self, it is all an act. Her panic attacks are triggered very easily and she is doing what she can to not succumb to the darkness daily.

This book will be told through Sy and Holly’s POV’s, which is always welcome in a book, this time, however, it is necessary. I think that in this case, knowing what is going on in Sy’s head is beneficial to enjoying this book. Especially with the flashbacks of times he spent with his daughter. It really allows the reader to open up and be compassionate towards him, not that he wouldn’t have earned that compassion on his own. It’s just the idea of a big, bad, biker being so gentle and seeing him come to terms with the inevitable (Keira’s death) really showed him in a different light. I know, I’m stereotyping and I’m sorry, but there it is.

For me, this book was more of a love story than Incandescent. In the first book, I felt that the MC was part of the main focus, where in this book, it’s there and there is even a part of the storyline that involves the MC (which will involve Holly and Kadence), but I think that the MC takes more of a backseat in this one. Personally, I think that is good, because the story here needs to focus on the healing of Sy and Holly (individually) so there can be a Sy and Holly.
Her behavior as a manager mimics that of the managers that she hated while she generic levitra cialis icks.org was being “Managed” and it is this same behavior that she will then pass on to the people and the pill that is been purchased the most by the people. Hymen Hymendalam hymen or reproductive health are membrane folds that cover part of the vagina. cialis prescription canada The organic Acai has recently become one of the most tadalafil overnight well-known raw food products on the globe.
Lately it seems that a lot of MC reads are being pumped out without a lot of time put into the story. The MC genre is one of my favorites, but it’s hard enough to read a book that is poorly written, but to read one in a genre that I love so much, makes me grit my teeth a little. I do believe that the author here set us up well for this book, with the first book. The timeline in this book will somewhat coincide with the timeline of the first book. It will be like you’re reading some of Incandescent, only through the eyes of Holly and Sy, but it will only enhance this book and actually adds a little more insight to what is happening with them in the first book.

Like I said, for me, this book was really a love story more than anything else. I felt that is was a journey of two people that were so gone inside themselves with grief, that the only ones who could pull them to the light and really see what they had to offer to the world, was each other. There were frustrating moments. It does take Holly a long time to tell Sy that the baby she lost was his. You know his past, so her reasoning was somewhat understandable, it’s just the loss of the baby is what was keeping her under and as the reader you know that if she would just release the pain a little to Sy, she could have begun the healing process earlier. But, a good book that would not make.

There are some lighter moments in this one, I promise. We get to read about the bachelor/ette parties of Kadence and Nix. Which involved a stripper practical joke and a night in jail. They were only mentioned in the first book and this one will go into detail, so that’s fun. And there are some fun moments at the clubhouse with the whole bunch of characters.

The sex, isn’t that what we love about MC reads? Well, it does not disappoint here. She does a wonderful job setting the pages on fire. You know, when I’m reading these books and the sex scenes are almost pornographic, I always wonder if I could write something like that and I have come to the conclusion that no, I don’t think I could. Well, I don’t think I could unless some good liquor and a sex version of Madlibs was involved.

This is a good book. It tells a good story, you will get what you want from this, which is a HEA and to fall in fictional love a little. It was a quick read and was well written. This series will continue with Desertion, which according to Goodreads will be out in 2015. On a side note: check out her website under “books”, there will be a picture that will not disappoint.
